xposting from tumblr (now there's a first)
The first character I first fell in love with: Skye
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Simmons. During the first couple eps I saw FitzSimmons mostly as comic relief and had no idea why everyone seemed to adore them. Silly me.
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: That new recurring dude, whatshisname, Ward's former SO. I have the feeling he might be working for the Clairvoyant but maybe that's just wishful thinking... something about the guy rubs me the wrong way.
The character I love that everyone else hates: Well, Skye is getting some hate in certain corners and I adore her. I sorely missed her in the last episode. Her absence really showed that she's the heart of the team, imo. Also, Raina: she's so compelling that I find myself wanting to like her even when she's being evil.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: None so far, knock on wood.
The character I would totally smooch: I'm most attracted to Ward and May.
The character I’d want to be like: Simmons. She's bright and warm and brave. :)
The character I’d strangle slap: That would be Quinn.
A pairing that I love: My OTP changes depending on the time of day... right now I love most: May/Ward on the show, Ward/Simmons in fic, and Skye/Ward for UST/as a hypothetical (like, once they've both grown a bit more and no longer have a mentor/student relationship).
A pairing that I despise: Despise is too harsh a word. There's a few I don't like the idea of, but even for those I'll read fic if the author really sells it for me. (Like Clint/Coulson or Coulson/Skye... those are the hardest sells for me personally, but I'm reading a C/S fic right now.)

1. Your main fandom of the year?
MCU, including Agents of SHIELD
2. Your favourite film watched this year?
Gravity, the only movie I watched in the theatre this year. I rarely feel this immersed in a movie; it was thrilling. I'm really glad I listened to all the reviews that said you need to watch this on the big screen. I would've kicked myself when eventually watching it on DVD.
3. Your favourite book read this year?
As usual, I read 99% fanfic and only two or three books. I read Battle Royale, which I liked a lot, but my favorite was A Monster Calls. That book is like a kick in the gut, but in the best way.
4. Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
Don't really have one. I digitized all my CDs and have the computer play them at random, interspersed with Japanese lessons. It's great when you're drawing and don't have to get up to change the CD.
5. Your favourite TV show of the year?
Agents of SHIELD fuckyeah
6. Your favourite online fandom community of the year?
You know... if I'm realistic, I have to say tumblr, most recently. It's flawed as a fandom platform and communicating there sucks donkey balls, but when I look for fresh content about my current show, I 1) actually find it and 2) it's actual squee and discussions and headcanons and shiny gifsets, rather than dour posts detailing how the show sucks and needs to get fixed according to each poster's tastes. So right now, I guess, if you need me... imma be on tumblr. (I'm astrid-v over there.)
It's nice to see LJ/DW pick up a bit, though, with the recent posting memes.
7. Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
same as 5.
8. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I don't think I have one... I didn't have expectations that weren't fulfilled.
9. Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Clinton F. Barton. I also have a soft spot for Grant Ward - hard and spiky on the outside, with a squishy (and occasionally goofy) center. Easy on the eyes, too. :)
10. Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Natasha Romanoff. And Melinda May. Both have layered personalities, and kick ass with style which never gets old. I have a huge competence kink. (And a thing for hot ladies over fourty, re. May. Honorary mention to Sophie Devereaux, who kicks ass in an entirely different way.)
11. Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Hm. It was probably something fanfic-related. But I can't come up with a single moment.
12. The most missed of your old fandoms?
SGA... I miss the gazillions of fic produced every year, most of them the kind of plotty action-adventure teamfic I love most. I don't miss the constant character bashing though, so that always puts things into perspective when I want to whine that my new fandoms don't have that kind of output.
13. The fandom you haven’t tried yet, but want to?
Farscape, eventually. Not anytime soon, I'm a fandom serial monogamist.
14. Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
That one's easy. Cap II, aka Black Widow the Movie. I'm trying to keep my expectations reasonable, but I'm really looking forward to that one.
Also looking forward to Black Widow #1. The preview pics look promising.
I normally also do the fanworks year in review, but a bunch of pieces are still veiled for fandom stocking. Maybe I'll do that one in a week.

Which TV show did you start watching in 2013?
The Americans, Rome, Person of Interest, Warehouse 13, Agents of Shield, Sleepy Hollow, Arrow, Almost Human, Doctor Who, Shingeki no kyojin
Which TV show did you let go of in 2013?
I dropped POI right after the pilot because it didn't speak to me at all and didn't ping me as the kind of ensemble show I was looking for. I would have let go of Almost Human after the pilot and Sleepy Hollow after episode 4, but the roommate is really into those, especially AH. And the latest eps I've seen I liked better; we'll see.
The Vampire Diaries. Actually may have dropped that one last year, can't remember. Once Klaus & Co got introduced, the focus and tone of the show changed and I rapidly lost what little interest I had. I was mostly watching it for social gettogether purposes anyway.
TV shows which ended anyway which meant their mixed quality last seasons didn't make me drop them:
none I can think of
Which TV show did you mean to get into but didn't in 2013? Why?
I've been meaning to check out Farscape, The Good Wife and a few others, but I'm already watching more shows than usual right now, so that'll have to wait.
Which TV show do you intend to check out in 2014?
None, I'm set.
Which TV show impressed you least in 2013?
Person of Interest, I guess.
Which TV show did you enjoy the most in 2013?
Readers of these pages might not be surprised to hear that it's Agents of SHIELD. ;) Well, a close tie with The Americans, which is an absolutely brilliant, tightly written show; I can't wait for season two to start in January. But Shield is the one that presses my fannish buttons and makes me happy. I love, love, love narratives revolving around found families; a disparate group of people coming together as a team. The universe is fun to play in and connects to my other main fandom which is pretty perfect. (I had a Shield dream last night. Melinda May was awesome in it.)

This year I can finally do this meme again without getting depressed.
January
The Fashion History Meme jumpstarted my muse.

Sophie Devereaux, Ancient Rome & Winry as a medieval lady
Spike in a Zoot suit (& two Leverage sketches)

February
Fight Bingo #2: Knives

more fashion history:
Faith, slayer of the vampyres
Ronon in Ancient Greek battle dress
Ronon as a Spartan soldier
Sketch: Parker teaches Hardison how to skateboard

March
more Leverage character sketches
April
Leverage Bingo #1: Nate and the Top Hat Job

June
Fight Bingo #3: Natasha saves Clint's ass
Sketch, and final version

art for casestory: Riddle me this

Nick Fury w/bazooka

July
Clint & Natasha character studies

August
Black Widow & Hawkeye, in action

September
more Hawkeye sketches

October
more Avengers

character studies: Aaron Cross and Jason Walsh

November
Lafayette sketch, colored

December
I made some stocking stuffers but the stockings are opened in January...
Mystery work & mystery work :D
Favorite(s) of the batch: Black Widow and Hawkeye in action
Best of the batch: Probably the same. I think technique-wise it's the most interesting and rounded, and it's as close to the picture I had in my head as I could hope to get.

It's meme time again. Snagged from
selenak:
Your main fandom of the year?
The Avengers. That came as a total surprise to me. The movie looked like a grade A sausage fest of the kind I try to avoid, plus Superheroes were always something I couldn't connect with. But TA turned my expectations upside down, and it gave me Black Widow. (Natasha's awesomeness aside, I still hope the sequels will feature more leading women.)
Your favorite film you watched this year?
That would be the same answer. But I equally enjoyed Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol which was just as much a surprise. I've watched it as often as TA. I never knew MI actually contains convoluted con plots of the kind I really like. (Though I have since watched MI1 and didn't like it nearly as much as 4.)
Your favorite book read this year?
I don't read a lot of books because of my fanfic habit. But just yesterday I read A Monster Calls which was intense. Not an easy read, hit close to home, but I knew what I was getting into when I started reading. And I'm glad I read it even if, or maybe because, it brought back emotions I normally keep buried.
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Can't think of any. I was mostly listening to 日本語能力試験:N3 while working, in the hope it'll eventually improve my understanding of spoken Japanese. "A man and a woman are talking. What is it the woman is finding in her handbag?" Exciting stuff.
Your favorite tv show of the year?
The Unusuals. As many other fans I came for Jeremy Renner and stayed for the entire ensemble and the quirky plots. Prematurely cancelled after only 10 episodes, but those are all good. And there's a novel-length fic now that spins the plot further.
(Going by the DVD cover you wouldn't assume it's an ensemble show. But I can't blame them for marketing it this way. Heh.)
When I was browsing through the Yuletide prompts I was surprised to see how many people had listed TU as one of their three fandoms.
Your favorite DW/LJ community of the year?
fail_fandomanon for the mix of discussion, recs and meta.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Avengers! I still enjoy Leverage a lot and I'll be sad when it's over... (I loved the Christmas episode) but it's so nice to be in a large fandom again, where I can pick something new to read every single day without running out anytime soon. I missed that.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Hm. Probably
casestory, but that was more of a minor disappointment. The fest went largely unnoticed and I won't participate again, even though it was low commitment and I really liked the story I made art for. Panfandom and gen combined makes too small a niche, perhaps.
Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
Jeremy Renner. That body. That smoldering look that he sometimes does. And the best thing is that a lot of his previous movies are really good.
(Though I have a hard time believing he played that vampire creep Penn in Angel: Somnambulist. I mean, I'd just watched that episode the week before I saw Avengers. I never would've guessed that's the same guy.)
(The upcoming Witchhunter thing looks. Um. Cracky. OTOH two of my favorite movies are Sleepy Hollow and The Nightmare Before Christmas. I kinda hope H&G is gonna be in that vein.)
Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
It's a tie between Scarlett Johannsson and Gina Bellman.
Gina Bellman is utterly gorgeous. She just has such a presence. I appreciated that Sophie got more to do in the recent episodes, for several eps I thought they were underutilizing her.
And here is where SJ calls an interviewer on his sexist question.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
That's hard to pin down... Hehehe. Okay, maybe the part where Hulk smashes Loki around. Or wait, the part in the beginning where Natasha is tied to the chair and does her thing while Coulson is listening in on the phone looking almost bored. (I was getting Buffy flashbacks. That is a very good thing in my book.)
The most missed of your old fandoms?
I believe this time last year I said I missed SGA for the abundance of fanwork if nothing else. But I don't any longer because I got enough to read. \o/
Sometimes I miss Buffy and Angel during the heyday... the intensity, the quality of the meta, which analysed and celebrated the show instead of merely tearing it down. These days I barely read meta any more because it interferes with my enjoyment of a canon instead of enhancing it like Angel meta did.
I had butterflies in my stomach before each new Angel episode... I haven't felt like that since then, not even for my most favorite shows. But the nice thing is that Buffy and Angel fandom still exist so whenever I feel like it, I can revisit. And the shows hold up very well on rewatch!
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Yeah, there were some. I should really start writing this stuff down. Anyway, I'm only into one canon at a time, so I'm not shopping for a new fandom at the moment.
When I'll try a new show it'll probably be Elementary.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
The SHIELD tv show. Even though I'm grumpy about Coulson getting a show while Natasha isn't getting anything but side character status in Cap2. But I hope the show will appeal to me nonetheless. And I do hope it'll be an ensemble show!

I don't know when I'll have time for the remaining prompts so for now here's what I got so far: Spartan!Ronon again, this time in color ( behind the cut )
Preview: group shot

Still no idea for my 'knives' prompt for fight bingo. How hard can it be to get a few characters into a knife fight?? I thought about using one of the Leverage characters but maybe I should go back to SGA and do the Jenn&Teyla pic I been thinking about. Still need a background plot either way though...

I finished what work I could do and my taxes are stalled, too. So, meme, snagged from
mizzy2k:
Name a fandom you know (that you think I know too!) and I'll tell you:
1. The first character I first fell in love with
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer
6. The character I would totally smooch
7. The character I’d want to be like
8. The character I’d slap
9. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise

eta: okay, I think I got enough prompts for now! Thanks everybody!
Give me a character and a time period from fashion history*, and I'll draw the character in said fashion.

Your main fandom of the year?
Leverage. Practically love at first sight. I saw Rashomon Job and liked it a lot, and I had the feeling I could fall in love with the show. So I started at the beginning and fell properly for it after a handful of episodes. Ahh, the moment when you realize you have a new fandom...
Your favorite film watched this year?
Hmm... The Lovely Bones? Saoirse Ronan is brilliant. Pity that the script for Hanna was so underwhelming.
Oh, and I really liked Tron, way more than I expected. (Was that this year?)
Your favorite book read this year?
Well, I barely read any books, mostly I read fic... I loved The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.

New York City. You are most definitely from New York City. Not New Jersey, not Connecticut. If you are from Jersey then you can probably get into New York City in 10 minutes or less.

If you read this, you're tagged. Take a picture of you in your current state, no changing your clothes or quickly putting on makeup.

Actually I already took that pic a couple nights ago, just didn't get around to uploading it. And I see the camera was still set to 'panoramic view'.
( While I'm at it I'll throw in a picture of our new gargoyle. :O) )

I was all set to buy a new computer and scanner... and this morning my screen went dark. Excellent timing, I thought. Took me a while to figure out it was the monitor and not the computer. Then another little while to search for the receipt and see if I'm still within the warranty (of course I'm not). That was a really unproductive day. And it looks like tomorrow is gonna be a really expensive day... new scanner, computer and monitor in one fell swoop, urkh. At least I still have trusty laptop, so I don't have to go computerless in the meantime.

Been meaning to do this for ages... Started by
dsudis: So I was adding some new interests to my LJ profile and found myself feeling defensive every time I typed a female name, thinking, basically, FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME, because I felt as if someone somewhere was going to be criticizing my love for them.
So, anyway, then I made a list of women who make me want to say FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME. They are far from the only women who are awesome, or the only women people need to be told to step off of, but they are the top ten I feel that way about, right now, off the top of my head.
If you want to argue with me about the awesomeness of any of these women, I am afraid I will simply be referring you to the subject line. THAT IS ALL.
Because here's the thing, I totally accept that not everyone's going to like every character I love, but I'm really tired of feeling like I'm going on the defensive every time I admit to loving a female character.
FUCK YOU, SHE'S AWESOME:

(Jennifer Keller (SGA), Samantha Carter (SG-1/SGA), Teyla Emmagan (SGA), Vala Mal Doran (SG-1), Nyota Uhura (ST)
Ziva David (NCIS), Kate Lockley (AtS), Gwen Cooper (TW), Winifred Burkle (AtS), Buffy Summers (BtVS))
