The Trio In The Temple by Seldear / [personal profile] tielan (Bones/SG-1)
Gen | PG-13 | characters: Temperance Brennan, Sam Carter | Mystery/Adventure | 11,337 words
Summary: When Brennan is called in to examine a trio of bodies, she discovers a mystery that stymies even her. Who are these three people and what interest does Colonel Sam Carter have in them?

A most excellent crossover, with a great Brennan voice... and a mystery. One the gentle reader already knows the solution of, but watching Brennan put together puzzle pieces that form an impossible picture is great fun to read.
(This fic is based on the SG-1 two-parter "Moebius" so might not make as much sense if you haven't seen those episodes.)

I received a question about Bones fic but I'm too out of touch with the fandom so I'm forwarding it to my friends list: Are there any good Bones fanfic archives where authors can upload fic? Back during S2 or so I had pondered making one using the BBFA's code, as that would've required only minor twisting. But then someone else mentioned they wanted to create one, and I'm pretty sure that one went online, but I have no idea what happened to it. So, can anyone recommend an active Bonesfic archive?

Speaking of Bones, why not post some fanart. *g* This scene is part of my cover art for [livejournal.com profile] newscaper's Bones fic Servare Vitas, and I thought it's a shame that the detail gets lost, so here's the scene, zoomed in closer.
behind the cut )

Change of topic: [livejournal.com profile] sarahtales has an interesting meta post: Ladies, Please (Carry On Being Awesome)
But there's another question, and that's the audience: I do think all of us tend to be harder on women, even if the women in question are awesome. This is totally natural - the society we live in has plenty of issues about the ladies, and sometimes we don't even know we're being influenced.
Linking because I think the best way to deal with unconscious biases is talk about them, a lot, so we eventually become aware of them. It's much harder to fight an invisible opponent.

comics and artwork:
have yet to contain anything you wouldn't encounter on the show.

Recs:
-I would warn for rape/non-con (does not necessarily apply to Buffyverse recs; I don't remember how we handled things back then). I would (in the unlikely case I'd even read it) warn for incest and chan.

-I mention character death only when I feel it does not spoil the story; in cases where that warning would be a spoiler and the author hasn't mentioned it either, I hint at darkness in the story, nothing more specific. Personally I hate being spoiled for surprise character death, both on tv and in fic, because it deprives me of a potential emotional and cathartic response, and I feel very strongly against any suggestions to make character death warnings mandatory.

-I rarely use the warnings: none label - and if I've learned anything over the last few days, it's that there are triggers beyond the obvious things like non-con, incest, and cutting, so writing warnings: none because I can see nothing triggering in it might not even be helpful for everybody. However I meticulously label all my recs with ratings, tags, and descriptions that should give enough information about what kind of story to expect.

-Feel free to email me for more details about any fic and I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.

[livejournal.com profile] tkp has written two more chapters of 'Man's Best Friend': part 2, part 3
Angel, Spike, Illyria, Nina, and a puppy, post NFA, PG. (original rec here)
I love this story fiercely. The show really comes to life when I read it.

[livejournal.com profile] yhlee wrote post-NFA fic as well: TIME'S ARROW.
characters: David Nabit, Angel, Spike, Illyria; 2,000 words; gen
Yoon's Nabbit is spot on, and at the same time she's turning him into that character I'm emphasizing with (never much cared for him on the show). This fic can be read as a one-shot, but I would so love to see this as a setup for a longer story, because I want to see more of this David Nabbit.

[livejournal.com profile] newscaper's Umbra, the alternate ending to 'Servare Vitas', is now COMPLETE.
This isn't an easy story to read, but it's rewarding... dark, bleak, and incredibly well written; I can only urge you to read it! (Don't read 'Umbra' if you haven't read Servare Vitas yet.)

[livejournal.com profile] lakrids404 has copied all his BBF recs in this post.

...
Now, work. I have a book deadline at the end of the month, which is in... argh. Yes. Quite soon.
Gotta catch up on work. Stoopid, addictive fanlib wank. :P

(and I just noticed that I have to do my taxes by next Friday. Yikes.
Ah well, traditionally I do them the day before the deadline. The only time I had them ready early was the year I thought the deadline was a month earlier.)

For some reason I'm chronically short on time this spring, and can't comment on the recs as much as I usually do... but I hope I gathered enough info to pique everyone's curiosity. I really want to get this posted now, there're some amazing stories that many readers probably haven't seen yet.

Orion Ale by [livejournal.com profile] spikendru (Bones/BtVS crossover)
Characters: Zach Addy & Andrew Wells, Dr. Daniel Goodman, Giles, Willow, and various other characters from both shows.
Rating: PG-13; Spoilers: later seasons of Buffy/Angel; set in Bones S2
[Length: ca 20,000 words]
Summary: Followers of an ancient, bloodthirsty, Celtic god think they have discovered a way to bring him back. The only ones that can stop them are the reformed Watchers' Council—if they can retrieve some ancient artifacts before the cult gets them first. When Rupert Giles discovers that at least one of the artifacts is in the possession of the Jeffersonian Institute, he sends his right-hand man, Andrew Wells, to retrieve it.

I’m really amazed how well these two verses mesh here while those two shows don’t exactly lend themselves to be crossed over. I don’t read many Whedonverse/Bones crossovers but I’m happy I found this one. What makes this such an enjoyable read is the spot-on dialog. The story is centered around Zack from Bones and Andrew from Buffy and watching them interact is so much fun, when the voices are that well written. The story’s got a satisfying plot as well, and vivid descriptions that draw you right in. On top of that, it's funny as hell. In short, go, read. :)

Refuse to be Comforted by [livejournal.com profile] tesla321 (WIP, 5/7 chapters up)
gen; Spoilers: To current episode, but may have some hints of future spoilers.
A casefile with excellent characterization... the way tesla writes them, you can see and hear the characters. I love that she's bringing Caroline the lawyer back in (and the fact that tesla knows law better than the Bones writers (presumably) doesn't hurt.)

method acting (from a stage whisper to a scream) by [livejournal.com profile] sezzie_dee
Rating: pg
Summary: "And for once at the end of it all, they’ll close their books on the same page." Brennan gen, BB. Kinda. Not really.
Minor spoilers for 2x08 The Woman in the Sand (which I haven’t even seen, so).

I thought this fic was absolutely amazing... the way themes and imagery connect, all the fragments effortlessly falling into place and making a clear picture. This fic just *works*, it flows naturally.

[livejournal.com profile] jwaneeta has a few pages of artwork up, among them two pages from a comic adaptation of 'Romeo and Juliet' - and she's cast Vincent Kartheiser and Summer Glau in the starring roles. Connor and River in period costume. :) Cyn is a fantastic artist and her likenesses are spot on. Check out the rest of the drawings there as well! (Scroll down about half way.)

fic rec (Bones): Bad Deposit by Nattysuits (WIP, two chapters up)
Summary: A new lead takes Temperance Brennan closer to her father and Max Keenan’s dangerous past too close to his daughter.
I'm a bit wary of rec'ing WIP, particularly one that's barely started... but the writing here is really that good. The style made me fall in love with this story right away. Spot-on voices, quirky sense of humour, a plot that's shaping up to be quite exciting. I hope this one will be updated frequently.

My to-rec folder was overflowing so, time for another one of these lists I like to do. There's everything from drabble to novel-length. Biased towards the Booth/Brennan end of the spectrum, but nothing overly shippy since my own tastes tend to be more on the gen side. Let me know if there're any broken links.Read more... )

My fic tastes aren't shippy so most of these are gen, with a generous dose of UST thrown in for good measure, usually Booth/Brennan. Pretty much like the show.

Note: The fics below the ******** line have all been mentioned in my journal at some point; I'm re-listing them here to have them all in one place.
I'm only including WIPs that are in an advanced stage and/or updated regularly. Everything not marked WIP is complete.
