Here’s part 2 of my Comic Con report... I typed it on the plane and didn’t get around to posting it. I'm right now sitting in a rotel room with
friendshipper and
sgatazmy :)... enjoying internet access (that, no matter what the hotel promises, is not high-speed.)( Read more... )

Hi, internet! I'm sitting at San Diego airport right now... my connection to Minneapolis isn't the best, and our plane is already half an hour delayed, so let's hope I'll make my connecting flight.
On the plus side, free airport WiFi! So I can finally write about comic con. Or at least post a few pictures. (
jwaneeta has more)

Muppets in Atlantis by
chayiana
Music: "The muppets" main theme
gen; humor; Spoilers up to 3x20 "First strike"
Chayiana's Lorne-vid "Be a Rockstar" is one of my favorite SGA vids ever, and one I use to recruit among my friends. So I checked out "Muppets", which is *hilarious*. She has great comedic timing. This one might also make a good recruiter vid though it gives a slightly, well, distorted view of the show. ;)
The Lost Button by
chayiana (SGA/Dr.Who)
Music: Laurel and Hardy's theme; Artist: Marvin Hatley; Genre: Crossover, silent movie, action/humour
This vid really captures the feeling of that old b/w silent movie comedies. Funny and charming. Those two shows play together well.
I'm days behind on answering email and LJ comments... but I should have time to catch up soon. ( non-dramatic rl stuff )
Oh, is anyone on my flist planning to go to San Diego Comic Con? I booked a flight the other day, not overpriced for once, and
jwaneeta and I already secured a room. I think applications for con tickets aren't open yet, but in previous years pros got to take one guest on their pass. So if you're interested, drop me a line. Free pass for all four days, and you'd get your own pass so no need to stick together at all times. I can also enter a name now and if that person decides not to come, it's no problem. It's just very difficult to change the name at the con center.
I considered flying back via Minnesota and take in Writercon on the way home but in the end I booked a flight out of Seattle. Now of course, seeing the list of who's gonna be there I'm slightly regretting it. OTOH I really love the Northwest. (Even if it starts raining every time I go there.) But anyway, two cons within ten days might've been a bit much? I don't know...

As I'm sitting at the Tofino bus station waiting for my bus to Nanaimo [edit: well, now I’m actually in Nanaimo] I figure that's the perfect time to start writing my holiday pic-spam. (How much do I love my laptop? Me and my laptop, we're bff. All this time waiting at airports, waiting at bus depots... that has suddenly turned into productive fun time. They even have WiFi at the San Diego convention center now, which is great because you can spend a lot of time waiting in ginormously long lines.)

(contains some spoilers for SGA s3/4)
Most of the pictures were taken by
jwaneeta, as I stoopidly forgot to bring my camera...
( Cut for length. Lots of pics, but the file sizes aren't large )
( road trip )
Well, that was California. It was indeed excellent. I tried to get
jwaneeta into SGA, and myself learned the whole back story of Dr Who. Heh. Now I'm back home and did I mention it's raining? That so doesn't help with the jet lag. I think I'll wake myself up by working on my fan art and/or watching an episode of SGA. My dad is gonna visit tomorrow at 11 (eleven!!!1!). I'm much looking forward to seeing him, I just hope he won't have to walk around with Zombie!daughter. I can't remember having such a bad case of jet lag... I mean, I slept until 4:30 in the afternoon today. Yikes.
[edited to change topic]: Holy Cow, the latest LJ debacle has made Spiegel Online (German link). ( Read more... )
I don't want to have to move the dozens of pictures in my scrapbook, not to mention editing dozens of links. I certainly don't want to move from LJ but it looks more and more like fandom might break up their collective tents in the not-too-distant future. And where fandom goes there goes my nation. So anyway, I'm not moving if you're not. But just in case, here are my other journals (all dormant): http://www.journalfen.net/users/astridv, http://astridv.greatestjournal.com, http://astridv.insanejournal.com

Well, I haven't caught up on the friends list as planned, because I still have the jet lag from hell and reading LJ would involve things like concentrating. But since I don't see myself getting any more work done today, it's a good chance to get that con report posted. The week was so chock full of events that it's starting to blur, but I'll go for the chronological approach.
Actually it's a con-report/San Diego sightseeing tour, as
jwaneeta and I flew in two days early to have time for touristy endevours. So...
( Tuesday & Wednesday: The one where Cyn and Astrid play tourist )
( First Day of Comic Con: On IP law... copyright, trademark, licensing, fair use and why TPTB are probably not gonna sue us fans )
( Next day: Scott McCloud's very cool panel. And Bones (yay) )
( Day three: The one where the fire marshal stopped the ticket sale )
( Day four: Tie-in writing and why you don't need an agent for it. Plus more beaching. )
( Last day: yet more sightseeing )
Man, that was longer than I intended but once I get writing it's hard to stop.

I just got back from my San Diego - Seattle road trip. I had an absolutely fantastic trip all around. Well, I could have done without the part where my flight home got interrupted because of some storm that hit the NY area... causing me and hundreds of hapless others to miss our connecting flights. At least now, when people share stories of how they got stuck at airports overnight, I have something to contribute. ;)
ComicCon went as well as I could have hoped, both work-wise and fannishly. On the plane I finally got to check the program and was delighted to see that not only was there a 'Bones' panel, but Joss himself would be there as well. My grin must have been wider than my face. But I'll try to tell it in the right order.
( ComicCon )
( Road trip... like I warned, this post is kinda heavy on the pictures (but I think I managed to shrink them down to dial-up-friendly sizes) )
I'm leaving this public for now... probably gonna lock it later.
