He is not a babysitter.

urban climbing vid: Buildering in Montreal
Some very nice climbing on the underside of a concrete bridge.

And, a crossover of White Collar and The Americans that's actually not as cracky as it sounds...
The Case of the Super Secret Spy Message by [archiveofourown.org profile] Treon
Gen; Mozzie & Philip Jennings; crossover/humor; teen; 1065 words

Always in Fun by [archiveofourown.org profile] vain_glorious
Summary: And just like that, Neal was in Peter Burke's house.
Gen; pre-canon; Neal & El (plus Peter), rated G; 3897 words
“No,” Mozzie snapped. “I am not helping you infiltrate the home of the FBI agent chasing you just for shits and giggles”
“Infiltrate?” Neal echoed. “I just want to visit.”
“Because you want to go to prison.”
“Nooo,” Neal stretched it out. “C’mon.” He paced the limits of Moz’s storage unit home, which took all of six steps until he was right back facing his friend. “I’m not meeting Kate in Monte Carlo until Friday. I’m bored.”
“You know what else is boring? Prison.”

Deep Space 9:
Collaborators by [archiveofourown.org profile] Selena
Gen; Odo & Quark, plus Dukat; backstory/character study; teen; 6559 words
Summary: Investigating Ferengi, getting blackmailed by the Bajoran resistance, and working for Cardassians: how Odo's assignment to investigate a murder on Terok Nor became a permanent job. Naturally, it was all Quark's fault.

Backstory with spot-on voices. Odo finds a purpose and meets a shifty Ferengi. We all know this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. (Even if they don't.)

Avengers/Thor:
Witness by [archiveofourown.org profile] puffabilly
Darcy/Clint and others; action/romance; mature; 21870 words
Summary: Darcy is called to be a witness at the State Armed Services Committee's investigation of the Avengers. All Clint has to do is keep her out of trouble...

White Collar:
Thursday's Child by [archiveofourown.org profile] Sholio
AU, Gen-ish, Peter and Neal/El; heist fic/friendship; teen; 20186 words
Summary: Peter acquires a couple of unorthodox guardian angels. This is a sequel to Monday's Child, in which Elizabeth meets Neal before she meets Peter, and embarks on a life of crime.

I'm not in the fandom but I find Sholio's AUs generally very compelling and I like the vibe of this one.
(No knowledge of the show necessary beyond a basic idea who the characters are in canon. This story works on its own (I actually haven't read the prequel myself.)

A crossover today: White Collar/Avengers
The Consultants by [archiveofourown.org profile] thebratqueen
Summary: "Which of our cases was similar to Iron Man and the Hulk wanting us to commit fraud for them?" Peter asked. "Because I have to tell you I'm racking my brain and nothing's coming to mind."
Bruce/Tony, Neal&Peter, Phil, Mozzie, El, Diana, Clinton, Pepper, Jarvis; genre: con job/crossover; rated teen; 38979 words

A crossovers that doesn't shortchange the characters from either canon and at the same time provides interesting outsider POVs. I especially like Tony's characterization as seen through Neal.

"Phil, I know this isn't exactly your thing but what we have here is an elaborate con - "
"When we're doing them for the FBI we're supposed to call them 'stings'," Neal told him.
"An elaborate sting," Stark said, without missing a beat, "wherein we use bait to lure - I believe the technical term is the bad guys.

Role Models by [archiveofourown.org profile] storiesfortravellers
Gen; Neal, Mozzie, Peter, El, OC; humor/kidfic; rated G; 3670 words
Summary: Peter and El get busy at work and need Neal (and Mozzie since they're a package deal) to baby-sit Peter's visiting 12-year-old nephew. Peter regrets it.

I don't remember how I found that fic because I don't read a lot in White Collar, but I'm happy I stumbled across it... really funny and cute.

A Handful of Lightning by [archiveofourown.org profile] Sholio
Gen; AU; Neal Caffrey & Peter Burke; 14387 words
Summary: "He's some kind of secret government experiment?" Peter and his team have been trying to catch the elusive con artist Neal Caffrey for years. But Peter's search for Neal leads him to something else: a startling revelation about Neal's true nature.

Sholio writes the most intriguing AUs!

Without a Clue by [archiveofourown.org profile] sholio (White Collar)
Gen; Neal&Peter; humor; 323 words
"Neal, what are you doing? You can't get into the library that way. There's no door."

Shelter on a Foreign Shore by [personal profile] sholio (White Collar)
AU; Gen with background El/Peter; PG-13; 64649 words; Characters: Peter, Neal, El
Summary: Peter, after being disabled on the job, buys a farm with El in upstate New York and raises horses. But retirement isn't suiting Peter so well, which means it's probably just as well when an injured forger turns up on their doorstep with trouble behind him.

A gripping, novel-length AU that tells a story of where the characters would be today where one thing had gone really, really wrong in the past. Sholio rocks the worldbuilding and characterization.

untitled #1 (couple with dog) by [archiveofourown.org profile] Sholio (White Collar)
4536 words, Gen; Rating: G;
Summary: Neal asks Peter and El to do a portrait of them.

This story really appeals to the artist in me, for one... the way it takes its time, shows the process of creating a painting instead of just handwaving the whole process the way it's usually done in media. But even more I love what insight emerges about the characters, their personalities and relationships. An excellent character study.

"I'd like to draw you," Neal says, out of nowhere.
"Haven't you?" Peter asks, genuinely curious.
"Not really. From a distance, maybe. 'FBI agent under lamppost.'" Neal flashes a grin, and Peter wonders if Neal is serious, if somewhere out there are paintings of him, the anonymous FBI agent in pursuit of a suspect, paintings that he's never seen. It does seem like Neal's style.

The Right Way to Fall by [archiveofourown.org profile] Sholio (White Collar)
AU/friendship; 20757 words; characters: Neal, Peter, Elizabeth (Elizabeth/Peter)
Summary: AU in which Neal has survived his reckless art-thief career mostly because he has a literal guardian angel. (Guess who.)

There are some writers who make me read fic in fandoms I'm not even in. AU fic, even. AU wingfic. This sounds like a cracky premise if you look at the header but Sholio plays it straight and the result is a beautifully characterized friendship story (with a very cool heist plot). Man, I'm trying to describe it without sounding completey sappy but that story really touched me. Left me with a big, big smile too.

Yang by [archiveofourown.org profile] therienne (Leverage & White Collar)
6013 words; gen; Parker, Hardison & Eliot; heist/humor
Summary: "Just don't get into trouble while we're gone," Nate said.

to be read in tandem with
Yin
6009 words; Gen, Peter Burke, Neal Caffrey, Clinton Jones, Lauren Cruz

in which the White Collar team stake out the same shady art auction that Parker, Hardison, and Eliot happen to have picked for a little side job.
Each fic can be read separately but when read together all the little pieces fall into place.

The Anonymous Tip Job by [archiveofourown.org profile] china_shop (Leverage/White Collar)
1896 words; Gen
Summary: It was too nice a day to be cooped up in the car for long, and Neal knew from experience that if he loitered on the sidewalk, there was a good chance a timely piece of evidence—or a fleeing suspect—would come his way.

One more example that Leverage/White Collar crossovers are just meant to be. I very much like Neal's outsider POV of team Leverage and the way you can easily tell all the characters merely from their speech patterns and Neal's observations. And there's a nice background plot to flesh things out and fuel the fantasy. (I'd love to read a long casefic in that 'verse...)

Courier by [archiveofourown.org profile] sholio (White Collar)
gen; PG-13; friendship/casefic/h/c; 10,690 words
Summary: 10-year-old Grace is being used as a courier to smuggle a priceless diamond necklace through airport security. When everything goes sideways, Grace has to trust an injured FBI agent and a bad guy who's not as bad as he appears.

That was a lot of fun to read. A plotfic with an interesting OC as a main character, one who carries the story with ease and also happens to provide a neat outsider POV of the friendship between Neal and Peter.

That One Time, With That Thing by [archiveofourown.com profile] LithiumDoll (White Collar)
gen; Characters: Neal Caffrey, Peter Burke, Kate Moreau, Mozzie, Clinton Jones; 10730 words
Summary: Pre-series, ~those~ bonds, 1-0: Neal's accidentally working for the mob, Kate is probably considering a new client list, Mozzie's waiting for The Man and The Man is a little more amused than it should be.

I understand this fic has been jossed by now, but who cares. At the very least it makes for a plausible and entertaining alternate version. The story is very effective in creating a claustrophobic mood as the trap around them closes more and more.

Accessories by [archiveofourown.org profile] LithiumDoll (Leverage/White Collar)
gen; characters: Hardison, Neal, Mozzie; 1936 words
Summary: Neal's so over federal fashion accessories, Hardison's in love and Mozzie's probably raiding the liquor cabinet while no one's looking.
“Who even needs a great eye? Anyone could see how beautiful she is. But I do have a great eye.” Hardison reached out to the object of his adoration. “Hey, baby,” he crooned. “You are one good looking piece of-”
Neal rolled his eyes and batted Hardison’s hand away from the tracking anklet. “Could you not stroke the bane of my entire existence? Please?”

(I really gotta watch White Collar one of these days...)

As readers of this LJ may have noticed, I've discovered Leverage andIlovethisshow♥. I love how these five messed up people found each other and formed a strangely functional family. And what I really like is - that annoying thing in fiction where the characters act stupidly even though they should know better, because that particular act of stupidity is required to advance the plot... those guys don't do that! They're smart, highly capable people, and the script allows them to act accordingly. Their plans don't always work out, but they can improvise, and they have contingency plans. That's such a turn on.Read more... )
So, yeah. I have no idea if anyone on my flist actually reads in this fandom but I'm reccing anyway, you never know...

Wow, one of the best-cut vids I've seen. The timing is amazing... not just of the clips themselves, even beats within the clips. I want to watch this over and over.
Characters: Parker, Hardison, some Eliot. (My summary would be "Hardison and Parker, how are you so awesome?!")

I Lie, I Cheat, I Steal (and I Just Don't Get Any Respect) by fiercelydreamed (Leverage/White Collar)
gen-ish with a lot of subtext every which way; Characters: ensemble x 2; genre: hijinks, heist, humor; 6767 words
"All right," Nate says, and smacks his hands together. "Let's go steal a con artist."

Two ensembles, and no character gets short-changed when it comes to personality and characterization (well, I can only guess as to the WC characters as I haven't seen the show, but they feel no less three-dimensional than the Leverage gang.)
