Warrior Witch, by Eustacia Vye

Summary:

Gretel doesn’t know much about magic, and isn’t sure what she felt about being a white witch herself. But one thing is for sure… She wasn’t going to stop killing evil witches. (3865 words)

Great casefic in the vein of the movie, with action and humor.

Grains of Gold Among the Sand (The Americans) by [personal profile] jae
Philip/Elizabeth, Paige, Henry; backstory; rated teen; 21,159 words
Summary: Philip Jennings throughout the years, navigating the minefields of marriage and family.

This story does a great job showing the complexity of their relationship, the inevitable clashes resulting from their different personalities and worldviews - Elizabeth's rigid idealism and the more pragmatic Philip, who has little trouble assimilating into their fake lives. The kids, who are so much more than a cover to both of them. The characterization is spot on and a ton of research must have gone into writing the background setting. As a child of the eighties, it all feels authentic.
She grabs him by the wrist. "Don't try to make this about our training, or our cover. This is about you. You actually like playing house in our shiny American suburb with our big American car and our perfect little American jobs." Her mouth twists in disgust.

It's like she's punched him. This family's so much more than an act, even for her, but she's so committed to the cause that she can't let herself see that. He jerks his hand away and leans in toward her, his face so close to hers that he can feel her breath on it. "Yeah, well, I'm so sorry for actually enjoying my job instead of treating it like some noble burden I have to bear for the motherland."

Into the Woods (Hansel & Gretel)
Gen; origin story/action/humor; teen; 3062 words
Summary: The first time Hansel and Gretel deliberately set out to hunt a witch, they didn't even want to save the kid she stole. Little Gretchen Hasmanstorper was a real piece of work.

Great origin story. In which our badass witchhunter siblings get started in their career.

Hansel & Gretel rec:
Cities of the Plain by [archiveofourown.org profile] Not_You
Hansel/Mina, Gretel, Edward, Ben, and OC townspeople; genre: action-adventure; rated Explicit; 18538 words
Summary: I'm going to be honest, here. I literally spoke the words, "I want to put them in fancy clothes and make them suffer." There is a plot, but this is mostly the story of The BAMF Twins Versus Civilization. It begins out in the woods, though, as so many things do.

Pretty much what I was looking for after watching H&G: an action-adventure right in the vein of the movie. This fic is fun! It's also extremely well written. They could practically film this as Hansel & Gretel: The Sequel. :)

(sidenote: plays fast and loose with things like Germany's geography. Heh. Then again, the movie is set in a much cooler pseudo-historical steampunky fantasy version of Germany, anyway.)

The background music is rather annoying but most of these clips are really funny.

Hey, I found a Hansel & Gretel fic I liked a lot. Shame there's not more fic like this; Gretel's situation just calls for stories that explore it.
