Lockdown by [archiveofourown.org profile] yuma_writes (NCIS)
Gen; team; casefile/action/h/c/big bang; teen; 27982 words
Summary: It's SOP (Standard Operating Procedure), except there was nothing standard about being shot, trapped and possibly hunted down within NCIS. Being locked in also means you can't get out.

An NCIS story set after season three, with absolutely spot on voices:
Ten Nonlinear Moves (ffn link) by [fanfiction.net profile] Sequitur
Tony & team; Gen; drama/humor; PG; 3336 words
Tony doesn't become team leader overnight. First, they have all have to watch movies, develop new neuroses, and make flowcharts.
author's note: Written to fill the gap between Season Three and Season Four, as sort of a coming-of-age story for Tony, who's picking up all the pieces in Gibbs's absence.
“It’s like that movie,” Ziva says proudly.
“Which movie?”
She deflates. “We didn’t actually - - we were just sure you’d know one.”
“No,” Tony says. “Nothing that is happening right now reminds me of anything that has ever happened in a movie. Movies make sense. Well, not David Lynch movies, but most movies.”

NCIS fic rec:
Gravity Can't Forget by [archiveofourown.org profile] anr
Ziva/Tony; stakeout fic; rated M; 2151 words
Summary: Adrenaline and exhaustion.

more NCIS:
[livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch wrote a post-Berlin story I liked a lot: Ani L'Dodi, V'Dodi Li
(major spoilers for last week's ep, don't read if you haven't watched it.)
Tony, Ziva; post-ep; rated teen; 3662 words

And for something different, here's a fanart Dr Who fans should get a kick out of. second Doctor in Prague by [deviantart.com profile] Malcolmorr (diorama)
I especially like the lighting in the photo. (I had to learn that photographing dioramas is harder than making the damn things in the first place.)

Highly Classified and Very Hush Hush by [archiveofourown.org profile] rageprufrock (NCIS/SGA)
Summary: Gibbs sometimes wonders what he did to deserve these morons, but then he looks through the one-way window at three naked and extremely uncomfortable-looking Marines and figures it could be worse. (gen; 1704 words)

Over the weekend I finished the covers for the two books I illustrated earlier this year... finally, two things I can cross off my to-do list. There was actual hopping-through-the-room after I was done. Also, bouncing up and down. I can't post the scans yet which sucks because I'm insanely happy with the artwork and want to share it with the world. Ah well.

Original fiction rec: [livejournal.com profile] plaidder is serializing one of her original novels in her lj: 'Better To Burn' is the prequel to her 'Women On Fire' fantasy series. All four novels, set in the world of Ideire, are excellent. I don't read much original fiction these days, but her stories gripped me immediately, I was pretty much unable to put them down.

Background information & Chapter One: Rules
Chapter Two: Trapped
Chapter Three: Gifts, pt.I, pt.II
Plaidder plans to post the story in weekly installments; you must be over 18 and sign up to get added to her reading filter (the first three chapters are unlocked)

drabble rec (BtVS): Changed by [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds
G-rated; Joyce, pre-season 5.
Just hundred words, but they pack quite a punch.
***
fic rec (NCIS): This Never Happens in the J. Edgar Hoover Building by [livejournal.com profile] kageygirl
Crack. With great character voices.

Still haven't decided if that NCIS thing of mine is just a fling or turning into a more permanent fannish obsession. No matter what... I don't know if it's by sheer luck of the draw or it's because the show has been on the air for a few years, but I'm having a *much* easier time finding good fic than in Bones fandom. The good stuff practically jumps at you, Sturgeon's Law notwithstanding.

(Seekrit message to all the 'Bones' fans on my flist: NCIS is nothing like JAG (from which it spun off) and bears, in fact, a lot of resemblance to 'Bones': An interesting ensemble with quirky characters operating in a procedural setting. Come on over and jump in, the water's lovely. :) )

on to the recs )
