fic recs: NCIS
Still haven't decided if that NCIS thing of mine is just a fling or turning into a more permanent fannish obsession. No matter what... I don't know if it's by sheer luck of the draw or it's because the show has been on the air for a few years, but I'm having a *much* easier time finding good fic than in Bones fandom. The good stuff practically jumps at you, Sturgeon's Law notwithstanding.
(Seekrit message to all the 'Bones' fans on my flist: NCIS is nothing like JAG (from which it spun off) and bears, in fact, a lot of resemblance to 'Bones': An interesting ensemble with quirky characters operating in a procedural setting. Come on over and jump in, the water's lovely. :) )

Notes: For the "First" Challenge: A character study, focusing on McGee's first really difficult crime scene after joining the team.
Realistic and well-researched; you get a real feeling for the painstaking work involved in processing a crime scene.
Angels and Heroes by
kikkimax
Summary: Things go bad after Tony receives the yearly reminder of a case from his past that refuses to let him go.
Gen; 40,567 word count; Rated for mature audiences for language and adult situations. Warning: male non-con, some graphic violence.
This is a novel-length story that sucked me in right from the start. Pretty much perfect in every way: from the description of the action, the plot, forensic details, to the flow of the dialog, the voices, and the emotional life of the characters... this one played in my head like an episode. Actually all of Kikkimax' stories I read did that. She also has a knack for writing intriguing OCs that add to the mix without messing with the chemistry. And I love the way she gets into the bad guys' heads, giving them dimension and making their actions believable.
Two more stories by the same author, and just as involved and well-written:
Legends and Myths by
kikkimax
Summary: Sequel to Angels and Heroes. Tony has a little trouble readjusting after he returns to work. Are his nightmares dreams or memories?
Gen; 30,274 word count; Rated for mature audiences for language and adult situations. Warning: mention of non-con and violence.
The Jagged Heart by
kikkimax
Summary: Tony learns not everyone is as harmless as they first appear and suffers the consequences of an obsession gone too far.
Gen; 26,736 word count; Rated PG-13 for language and sexual references.
The Way Things Are Done by
zortified
Pairing: Gibbs - DiNozzo friendship. Short
Summary: Working for Gibbs means that just when you have things figured out, you find out you probably don't.
Two possibilities by ZivaFan
What have Tony and Ziva been doing at Ziva’s place at least once a week for the past three months?
Two possibilities to choose from:
This one had me in stitches. Crack.

Most certainly. But NCIS has the forensic techspeak too, yet there're more actual casefiles to be found. Whereas from some of the stuff on ffn, you could think Bones fandom is downright obsessed with the thought of getting Brennan knocked up. What's that about?
I'm a gen reader, but I don't mind shipperfic as long as it comes with good plot & characterization... just that a lot of the time those fall by the wayside to make room for the OTP getting it on.
I'm having a vague idea for a Bones/NCIS crossover. I mean, speaking of OTP... those two shows ask to be crossed. They even take place in the same city. Weird than no one has done that so far (or I missed it).
