year in fandom meme

gakked from [personal profile] ratcreature

Your main fandom of the year?
Leverage. Practically love at first sight. I saw Rashomon Job and liked it a lot, and I had the feeling I could fall in love with the show. So I started at the beginning and fell properly for it after a handful of episodes. Ahh, the moment when you realize you have a new fandom...

Your favorite film watched this year?
Hmm... The Lovely Bones? Saoirse Ronan is brilliant. Pity that the script for Hanna was so underwhelming.
Oh, and I really liked Tron, way more than I expected. (Was that this year?)

Your favorite book read this year?
Well, I barely read any books, mostly I read fic... I loved The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Beethoven's Last Night. It's one of those rare CDs I listen to without skipping a song. It's glorious.

Your favorite TV show of the year?
See main fandom :)

Your favorite DW/LJ community of the year?
That'd have to be fail_fandomanon. Huh. I used to be rather prejudiced against anon memes or at least didn't get the point, but I've come to appreciate a discussion where you've taken ego and status out. Great for multifandom recs, too.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
See #1.
Second is the Angel Season 6 comics! Angel: After The Fall, vol. 1-4 & 6. (not 5, that one sucks.) Those comics are a worthy successor of the tv-show. I happily accept them as canon. They feel like canon, too. Joss was involved and you can tell.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Not having as much fic in my main fandom as I'd like, especially not enough fic about my favorite characters using my favorite tropes./greedy /picky <--just write it yourself you lazy bum

Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
Nathan Ford. Yeah, okay, he has issues up the wazoo, and unfortunate self-destructive tendencies that on occasion threaten to take down his friends along with him. He's maybe not a particularly nice person but he's a good person. And I always had a thing for guys that are a bit older than me. With bonus dark messy hair.

Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
Sophie Devereaux. Rawrrrr. She's got an incredible presence and knows exactly how to use it. Part of me wants to be Sophie when I grow up.

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Finding a new fandom and reading my first batch of fic

The most missed of your old fandoms?
Oh my god the sheer amount of fic in SGA fandom, so much that you couldn't even read all the stuff that fit your particular interests.
And I miss the inspiration. I don't miss the fandom as such because the whole Keller-bashing issue soured me on it so thoroughly I don't think I'll ever feel not bitter about it... but I miss the creative impulses that would hit me constantly, forcing me to draw and draw. Obsessively. Part of it was the crackiness of the source, part was the creative energy in that fandom which was just contagious. And the feedback culture seemed much more vibrant, but I guess that’s just a numbers thing and the percentage of people commenting stays the same across the board.

Anyway, I'm not even doing that "fanworks in review" meme this year because it'd be just depressing. Maybe next year!

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Fringe sounds interesting. I have no idea what the heck is going on on that show but I see posts on my flist and I'm curious. But I'm a serial-fandom-monogamist, I rarely check out new shows while I'm still involved in my main fandom.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
None of the big fannish-catnip blockbuster movies for 2012 sound appealing to me. Meh. But then again I didn't expect to like XMFC much and I did.
