Performance Review by [archiveofourown.org profile] Margo_Kim
Fury & Natasha; Gen; rated G; 1885 words
Summary: Two years of working with her and Nick’s still not that fond of Agent Romanov. Had Barton asked him—though why Barton would start now after ten plus years of doing whatever the hell he felt like—Nick would have told him the only logical answer: Hell no was he bringing that woman back alive. Barton’s job was to eliminate the killer spy. Not adopt her. You don't get cuddly with a creature like the Black Widow.

Nick Fury's got a new job for Natasha and calls her into his office for a casual conversation. At SHIELD, casual conversations are a game of spy versus spy.

At least a dozen times in the past few weeks I came across the tired argument that "female characters are all so crappily written and the male ones are always so much better developed and interesting and that's why they get all the attention." I really wish these people could just own up to preferring guy characters, instead of defending their preferences by dissing the women in the same breath.

In light of this, I updated my collage No Interesting Female Characters My Ass with Sophie Devereaux, Parker, and Black Widow. Been meaning to do that for ages. Fuck you, fandom, these chicks are awesome.

(This is not a discussion post so if anyone feels compelled to drop in and make a case why any of them don't meet some criteria for awesome: keep it out of my journal. I had that discussion, at length; I won't any more.)

A few art recs today...
Just popped up on my friends list: Preview of Avengers #1 with art by Jerome Opeña... Only pencils so far; looks good!

Featured on [livejournal.com profile] kidpix today: How to Find Flower Fairies with art by Cicely Mary Barker
A pop-up book so pretty, I went straight to Amazon and ordered one for myself. *
(Here's a link to the English version on Amazon.com

(*I want to create a pop-up book myself and books like this one are a great inspiration. I have an idea and a plot all ready to go; I'm planning to take time off to work on the concept, once my current projects are done.)

Also seen on [livejournal.com profile] kidpix: Scans from "The Art of How to Train Your Dragon". A lot of scans! Looks like they scanned half the book. Interesting concept art in various styles.
