Nicht vergessen: heute ist Wahl!
[eta: fat lot of good that did.]
The other day I was riding my bike and reciting poetry in my head to keep myself entertained, and I suddenly realized that one of my favorite poems - Die Brück am Tay by Theodor Fontane - can count as fanfic. Shakespeare fic, to be exact, that spins off a few well-known minor characters from 'Macbeth'. ("Wann treffen wir drei wieder zusamm'?" translates When shall we three meet again?)
Fontane wrote this poem as a reaction to the Tay bridge disaster. The message, about the hubris inherent in thinking we can control nature with our technology... didn't exactly lose its relevance over time.
( It's in German though. )
*shivers*
I should work but the weather is so lovely today, I think I might go on a nice long rollerblading tour first, store up more sunlight for the winter to come.
Last night I was at a party that involved dancing. I've always been what in German we call a Tanzmuffel... those people who sit at the table and resist every attempt to drag them to the dance floor with teeth and claws. But last night I had (heh) a ball. We were mixing medieval dances with modern standard dances, almost none of us knew what they were doing and I think everybody had a great time. I'm toying with the idea of taking dance lessons sometime, should the opportunity present itself.
Also decided to take Japanese classes again. Classes at evening school have started two weeks ago but I'll call them tomorrow and see if there are open spots. As to the French lessons, bah. I'll just continue to read lots of French comics and learn it this way.
