The Blue Hair Job by Comfortably Red (Leverage)
Gen; PG-13; team-centric; Genre: casefic; 24,238 words
Summary: The Leverage team is called in to help an elderly woman and her friends, but there may be more to the job than they realize. What happens when the marks have plans of their own?
A solid team-y casefic, well-written and fleshed out with a good feeling for detail and interesting original characters!

Gen; Hardison & Sophie; 1253 words
Summary: Sophie and Hardison met once before...

Bonus rec... today featured on DYAC: 10 Funniest Parent Texts From 2011. Your grand aunt just passed away. LOL.
I still got tears in my eyes.

In the last two weeks I raised my climbing grades from 7- to 7+ \o/. I suspect it has something to do with who sets the routes; some helpful soul finally set a few that play exactly to my strengths.
Someone finally thought of the little people. :)
(Not rec-related. I just had to share...)

Girl Stuff by wontquitmydayjob (Leverage)
Nate/Sophie; characters: Nate (POV), Sophie, team in the background; genre: humor; 1216 words
Summary: Nathan Ford faces every man's worst nightmare: his ex and his girlfriend becoming friends.

"I don't want the two of you…you know…talking about me…"
She picks up her purse, rolling her eyes. "Well, fascinating though you are," she says, with heavy sarcasm, "Maggie and I are both intelligent, educated people with a wide range of interests. I'm sure we can find something to talk about other than Nathan Ford."

Summary: "I want to run The Blacked Out Supermodel." - for the Snogging Meme on LJ

She grins expectantly. Hardison sighs.

The Zombie Apocalypse Job by monkeytwin (Leverage)
team with some Nate/Sophie; minor crossover with SPN; PG-13; 6,973 words
Summary: Pretty much exactly as advertized.
reccer's note: Due to the format of this fic some of the chapters are very short; to get the entire story in one file go to the fanfic downloader at FLAG, enter the story ID (6566093) into the top field that says 'Source URL / ID' and pick your format of choice.

Nicely creepy and action-filled. The story covers a longer time frame, showing snapshots of events here and there, and it brings things to a satisfying end. I'd love to read an epic 100,000 words version of this apocafic but these glimpses are already very entertaining.

Bonus rec: Leverage - Season 1 Official Recap

Because I'm all filled with show-love and the sudden desire to pimp my show. If you've been interested in checking out Leverage, this trailer gives an idea what it's about. (Almost no major spoilers) The current season just finished, what better time to catch up. :o)

Pursuit by wontquitmydayjob, part 3&4 (Leverage)
gen with N/S UST; pre-canon; 10,839 words all parts
I already mentioned this series but I thought these latest two parts deserve their own rec, since each part works as a self-contained fic, with a different theme and plot:
Chapter 3: Paris
"A Degas sculpture is stolen while you're in Paris? A bit too much of a coincidence."
"I love Paris. I spend a lot of time in Paris. Not every crime committed in Paris when I happen to be here can be attributed to me…though, to be fair, quite a few of them can."

I love how the story gets across the ease with which the two relate to each other and the pleasure they take in each other's company (while never losing sight of that cat-and-mouse game of theirs).

Chapter 4: London
Donovan gave him a shrewd look. "Be careful, son, she seduces people for a living. The whole point is to make you feel like you're different from all the others, but that's how she gets what she wants."

The backstory for Sophie that the writer imagined feels totally plausible. If the show ever tells that part of her background - I kinda hope it won't as I love the mystery, but if it does I wouldn't be surprised if it went something like this.

I'm perusing everybody's yuletide recs with much interest! Keep'em coming, flist! That festival is just too huge to wander in without map and guide. I'll have a few of my own soon.

I was gonna collect some more links before resuming the recs, but last night I read this really cool paranormal apocafic AU, so:
Always Darkest Before Dawn by [archiveofourown.org profile] unavoidedcrisis (Leverage)
~30,000 words; Gen; Parker & team, OCs; written for apocabigbang 2010

Summary: One of the mysteries of the universe is why Parker, of all people, gets the ability to see a soul after it departs the body of the recently deceased. They're glittery and she's Parker, so of course she starts picking them up, not knowing what they really are. Of course, she could just look in the instruction manual... but oh, no, Hardison's taken it.

Then the hellhound shows up and starts eating the doors off her cupboards, and Eliot is breaking into people's homes to threaten them with tape and knives. It's been a very stressful couple of weeks and all Parker wants is a vacation, or a nice, relaxing art theft, but now the forces of darkness (whatever that means) are bent on destroying the world. And then, if she somehow ever gets that mess sorted out, Hardison's been complaining that all his Hot Pockets taste like doom...

Tea and Emergency Biscuits by [livejournal.com profile] fleurlb (Leverage)

Lovely character stuff!

Pursuit by wontquitmydayjob (Leverage)
gen with Sophie/Nate UST; Rated PG; 3977 words
Summary: He didn't want to admit he wasn't chasing her just because it was his job. She didn't want to admit she wasn't trying very hard to get away.
From the author's note: Yeah, it's been done by others, probably others with more writing skill, but who doesn't love Europe and stealing stuff and unresolved sexual tension?

I sure do. *g* Yeah, there are already quite a few good Nate&Sophie backstory fics out there but there's never too much of a good thing, ey? I really love the writing style here, atmospheric and vivid, with lots of attention to detail and great characterization.

This is strictly speaking a WIP and I hope the writer will continue this series, but these first two encounters in Prague and Damascus work well on their own, inspired by their conversation in The Mile High Job. (It's a new ffn account; lets bribe her with feedback so she'll write more in this fandom...)

1,069 words; Nate/Sophie; PG; Spoilers: For the end of The Boiler Room Job

Just... aww. Totally adorable, pitch-perfect, and a nice followup to that ep.

How Tara Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Patsy Cline by [archiveofourown.org profile] hannasus (Leverage)
2873 words; Tara/Eliot; PG
Summary: He was non-specific about the nature of the job on the phone. The only thing he was specific about was how she should dress and the fact that she wasn’t to breathe a word about it to Sophie or anyone else.
“It’s kind of like meeting Charles Manson’s parents and discovering that they’re this nice, normal couple who just happened to raise a cold-blooded killer.”
He pulls back so he can look at her. “Did you just compare me to Charles Manson?”
She shrugs lightly, smirking at him.
“Why are you here again?” he grumbles, but he’s almost sort of smiling.
“Moral support,” she reminds him.

Safety Dance: Equal Opportunities by eekz (Leverage)

Reciprocity by [livejournal.com profile] scarletts_awry (Leverage)
~4800 words; Sophie/Nate; NC-17
herein: the badger game – a blackmail stratagem in which a man is lured into a sexually compromising position

One of the best Sophie/Nate stories I've read. Love the honest depiction of their relationship, raw and intense and more than a little messed up. (Did I mention smoking hot? That, too.) And excellent blend of con plot and character exploration.

he has the only sophie there is by v-volatile (Leverage)
3,914 words; Sophie/Nate and team; Warnings: violence, rape attempt
Summary: A mark misjudged is a dangerous thing.

A con goes wrong... This story has a more serious tinge (not ultra-dark but definitely not as lighthearted as the show). The characters feel real.

Two's Company by lillypilly11 (Leverage)
3,360 words; PG-13; Sophie/Nate/janitor's closet <-- 'nuff said?; + team in the background; humor/romance
Nate and Sophie hide out for a while in what could be an interesting situation. If only they were alone...

Very cute fic with great voices (actually my favorite line in this one comes from Parker...)

Who Am I Tonight by v-volatile (Leverage)
1,799 words; Sophie/Nate, Romance/Angst
"Not being able to have children, not being able to tell people your real name, having to leave paper trails that are fake, not even being able to share your great successes with family members—it's like we don't exist. It's like we're invisible. Transient," Sophie remarks.

What Else Would You Have Me Be? by [archiveofourown.org profile] jendavis (Leverage)
Summary: Some jobs changed the team for the better. Some, for the worse, and San Lorenzo hadn't been the first kind. But maybe it hadn't been the second, either.
73,556 words; Eliot-and-Hardison-centric teamfic with a side of H/E; Rated M; casefic/drama/action

Hardison/Eliot as a ship doesn't even do much for me but Jendavis writes such engaging plotfic that I'm getting from her fic what I usually look for in genfic. In the story header only Eliot and Hardison are listed but it's really a casefic that involves the entire team, some villains that aren't to be messed with, and a con that goes slightly a lot wrong. Good times.

(rec snagged from Sholio)
Yang by [archiveofourown.org profile] therienne (Leverage & White Collar)
6013 words; gen; Parker, Hardison & Eliot; heist/humor
Summary: "Just don't get into trouble while we're gone," Nate said.

to be read in tandem with
Yin
6009 words; Gen, Peter Burke, Neal Caffrey, Clinton Jones, Lauren Cruz

in which the White Collar team stake out the same shady art auction that Parker, Hardison, and Eliot happen to have picked for a little side job.
Each fic can be read separately but when read together all the little pieces fall into place.

The Anonymous Tip Job by [archiveofourown.org profile] china_shop (Leverage/White Collar)
1896 words; Gen
Summary: It was too nice a day to be cooped up in the car for long, and Neal knew from experience that if he loitered on the sidewalk, there was a good chance a timely piece of evidence—or a fleeing suspect—would come his way.

One more example that Leverage/White Collar crossovers are just meant to be. I very much like Neal's outsider POV of team Leverage and the way you can easily tell all the characters merely from their speech patterns and Neal's observations. And there's a nice background plot to flesh things out and fuel the fantasy. (I'd love to read a long casefic in that 'verse...)
