Heh, Kristina Busse posted her Writercon report on her rl blog, and if you scroll down to the third picture, you can see a photo of 'the Germans' at the party... namely Kristina, myself, Monanotlisa... and the American lady to the right who I think I should really recognize but I'm so incredibly lousy with faces, sorrysorry. (In my defense, one time in a comic shop I didn't recognize my own brother.)
I'm the one with the fanart on the t-shirt, obviously.:)
That was one great party!
Okay, yes, Writercon. So Kristina was doing this talk on tropes, and the balance between repetition and difference, and on embracing the repetition inherent in using tropes instead of being dismissive of it (and considering that Rheanna got 400 sign-ups for Cliché Bingo, I'd say we're there, no? :D) Here's her write-up of it. It was a fun panel, very enjoyable. And this is one of the vids she showed, and that I wanted to rec: It's a Supernatural vid, but you don't have to be familiar with the show to 'get' it because everybody is familiar with the topic.

It's about movie genres it gleefully emulates and quotes from, and I thought it's quite brilliantly done. Also, funny. (The other vids linked in Kristina's text are really worth checking out, too.)
My LJ feed for David Hewlett's blog seems to be working less than half the time. Same goes for anything posted to
sga_flashfic... the posts just don't show up on my friends list, or a day later when they'll already be buried under a heap of other posts. There are probably more posts I'm missing that way without even noticing. So, you know, if I'm never replying to your posts even though you think they should totally interest me, maybe it's not me being rude but LJ doing its thing.
( real life stuff of the undramatic kind, cut for your convenience ) fic recs next for real!
