Inquiring mind ([livejournal.com profile] yhlee's in this case) wanted to know whether the "Spike vs. Dracula" comic is worth picking up. My comics dealer had reserved me a copy which is really the only reason I bought this issue. I like Spike, but for me the Buffyverse is pretty much All About Angel. Besides I was less than thrilled with the artwork in "Spike: Old Wounds" (oh, how I *loathe* the photoshopped artwork in that one. Loathe it so much that I couldn't bring myself to read that comic yet.)

Anyway, after seeing that this was drawn old style, I got a copy and I actually like it a lot. It ties into canon without jarring, the dialogs are snarky and in character, the likenesses are pretty good imho - young Spike in particular; Dru and Darla aren't perfect but good enough - and what a relief after the photoshopped thing last month. I even like the colouring.

And we finally find out why Dracula owes Spike 11 pounds.

I thought this was a one-shot, but it looks like this is going to be a series. If they stick with this writer/artist team, I'm looking forward to the next parts.

Also rec-worthy: the Angel "Old Friends" series, written by Jeff Mariotte, drawn by David Messina. They're currently at #4 and I'm looking forward to each new issue. The dialogue is really true to the show, and the plot is intriguing so far.
