I was writing this little list of recs it in response to
superplin's request for well-written Cordelia fic. And since all that pesky coding and linking is done already, I'm thinking, why not get some extra mileage out of it and make a separate post. I hear it's writer appreciation week or something, so... these authors rock my fanfic world.
On to the stories (all of which, and more, can be found at the Better Buffy Fiction Archive, if I may squeeze in a bit of archivepimp appreciation...)
"For One Night Only" by Rheanna
"Angel's back, but Cordelia isn't ready to forgive and forget -- until she's forced to see things from his point of view."
gen, Cordy/Angel relationship (in a decidedly non-shippy way), plot. I mean, PLOT! :o)
(Actually, all of Rheanna's stories come with fantastic plot, as do Yahtzee's. I cannot recommend them enough. Check out all of their stories, I can't list them all or this list would need an extra comment.)
"The Cruelest Month" by Starlet
"The story of four detectives, two snitches, one candy dispenser, and an April Fool's day that Cordelia would rather forget."
ensemble fic, gen, and just plain fun.
"Heat Stroke" by Starlet
Please tell me there's a Kwik-E-Mart next door," Angel said. Cordy slapped him on the arm. "No, dummy. There's nothing but desert. Flat, empty, stupid desert."
C/A. Lost in the desert. Extremely descriptive without being flowery. Draws you just in... I read this story during an actual heat wave. It was almost surreal. I read it twice in a row which I almost never do.
The Case of the Missing Santas by Little Heaven
genfic that recaptures that season one vibe perfectly; spot-on Cordy voice
Oh, and this one: "Paris by Night" by Amanda Wilde. It's short, barely more than a snippet... yet for me, it's Cordy in a nutshell.
"As Time Goes By" by Yahtzee is a Casablanca pastiche that just works. (btw, the casting isn't what you'd expect :o).)
Okay, Yahtzee's site seems to be down right now, I can't get a link. I'll edit it in later.
eta: here it is...
Well, there's also A Stitch In Time by Rheanna and Yahtzee... Novel-length time-travel fic, mostly Gen with a hint of C/A subtext (my favourite kind of story).
last not least, Another Life by Inamorata.
This story will forever be one of my favourite C/A fics. After reading this story I took all my AU prejudices, bundled them up and threw them overboard. There's one scene in particular that sends a shiver down my spine whenever I read it.
eta: I completely forgot Dazzle (Yahtzee's seekrit identity).
Thaw: "Amnesia is an ugly, ugly thing." Cordelia's attempt to recapture her memory has dramatic consequences -- first for Angel, then for the rest of the world. "Birthday" meets "The Wish" in this excellent AU story.
