WIP status update

So, page 8 still isn't quite done yet... instead I finished page 12, page 11 is probably next. In other words, I've given up on the whole working in sequence idea. It's just not my thing. Instead I'll post the whole comic in one soon as all the remaining five pages are done.

But if you'd like a little preview, here's page 12. It's unlettered but it is the final page, so still somewhat spoilerish; you might wanna give it a pass. I'm just too impatient to let a finished page sit on my hard drive for a few weeks without showing even a few people. (Just don't link to it.)

I might still modify some of the colors later, when I'm doing the lettering.

Dude, that's a bold use of green -- works great. I especially like the top panel and the last, the tall vertical with the ciryscape in the bg. Sweet!

Bold, yup... my usually comfort palette ranges predominantly somewhere between indigo and naples yellow, so this green shade seemed counter-intuitive... and yet, this page insisted on it. You have no idea how often I went back and forth between this version and my alternative, which has a more red-ish top panel and the skyscrapers in the last panel a misty dark green against lighter green bg.

I just couldn't decide but all my friends who saw them picked this one at the first glance. Glad you think it works. I think so too, I just might change a few nuances in the smaller panels.

Yay, a new reader. *waves* Glad you like.

I just found your lj, and need to go through to see the rest of your work

I just finished tagging the more recent posts, so all the artwork should be easily found.

This comic, "Synth", is a collaboration with yhlee. I'm actually hoping to have it finished by the end of the month, rl permitting. Smile Time: The Comic (http://astridv.livejournal.com/28055.html), already finished, is a six-page puppet!Angel post-ep.

Hope you'll find something to your liking, and thanks for delurking :)

I'm such a bad Jossverse fan....I didn't know Fray was a Slayer comic :">

I just read Smile Time, and now I have to go redo my eye make up cause of the mirthy tears.

But no better way to start a new job than thinking of Wee Puppet Man TM and his wee nose. *traipses off giggling*

After seeing this, I broke down and bought Fray, and now I'm chomping at the bit to read the rest of this comic!

Heh. Our work is done. :)

'Fray' is pretty damn shiny, isn't it. I hadn't read it myself until last year (for the Whedonverse, for me, is really All About Angel and I hadn't been interested in the story of a future slayer). When [livejournal.com profile] yhlee suggested this comic to me, I bought a copy and was thrilled. Great addition to the 'verse. It has that Jossian flair that the other tie-in comics are sadly missing, and a compelling story on top of that.

And of course the artwork is fantastic, too. I was duely inspired when I read 'Fray', I couldn't wait to start illustrating Yoon's script. And I've never felt the slightest desire to do fan art for a comic before. Well, not since I was a kid and copying from my favorite graphic novels.

I have one or two more weeks of rl work, then I hope to have a few days to work on 'Synth'. I'm itching to finish it.

For me, it was after I saw the first few Buffy graphic novels that I was all '.....uh, no." I didn't like the art AT ALL (and I've been a Joss fan since the Buffy movie, so I pretty much eagerly devour anything he has even a fingernail in...except the graphic novels, which made me sad), so I didn't even bother with picking them up to read them. But yeah, Fray? Worlds of awesome. It even had me LOLing as I read, which was really the hallmark of Joss for me. God yeah, the art rocks all corners of ass.

Okay, I've babbled on way to long (sorry, still kind of asleep)

Many of the other tie-in comics look and read like uninspired hack work. But there're actually a few I can wholeheartedly recommend. They don't reach the level of 'Fray' but they're still good. Lemme dig around a little...

"Ring of Fire" (Buffy) by Doug Petrie and Ryan Sook: I'd rec this one for the artwork alone, which is really beautiful. Very good likenesses, too (but not this slavish, photoshopped kind of likeness you find in some of the most recent Spike comics). Story is good as well, though Drusilla's voice is off. Features Angelus.

"Haunted" (Buffy) by Jane Espenson and Cliff Richard is written from the Mayor's POV. Post-Graduation. Very good story idea, good artwork, great dialog.

"Illyria" (Angel spotlight) by Peter David and Nicola Scott has spot-on Illyria characterization.

"Reunion" (Buffy) by Jane Espenson & various artists: The backstory behind Buffy's and Angel's meeting when she came back. Now, this one reads like a fanfic, and I mean this in the best possible way. The way different POVs are drawn by different artists is maybe not new, but effective and fun.

There're more that I found at least entertaining, but these are my favourites.

....my love for you knows no bounds. Which of course means that my checkbook hates you right about now. But my little fangirl heart is so happy!

How many issues are there of Fray? And do we know if it's being continued? *needs more*

If the one you read was the trade paperback (the one that ends with the big showdown) then no, no further issues yet. And it sounds like Joss is busy with other projects, but who knows...

My pleasure. (And damn, I just noticed that I forgot a few shades in the last panel... have to fix that...)

Hey, hope you're feeling better. May your immune system slay that flu virus soon!
