this one's acrylics on paper bag ^_^. (I'd printed the inked sketch on the paper, and made a few edits to the coloring in PS.) I forgot how much fun it is to work with that kind of paper. I'd stopped using it because it changes color under sunlight, but I'm gonna get another roll of packaging paper.

Yesterday me and the roomies were invited to a party of 'Vampire' live-action role players. We weren't required to play, fortunately; we were invisible observers.

Okay, RP of any kind doesn't do much for me. But. 20 people in costumes. Standing around a lot of the time. And I had brought my sketch book. Hehehe. (I so wished I'd also thought of bringing a few decent brush pens or markers to speed things up; as it was I was stuck with a pencil and a fine-line edding, but better than nothing!)

And while I'm with the pic-spam... this one I took from our front yard the other day.
This isn't manipped, the sky really looked like that.

Man, I finished a job a few days ago, and until now I was too lethargic to even scan in the pages and send them off. I really should get to that next before doing anything else.

Oh Lord, I love the Ronon and Sheppard pics. Is it Friday yet? I need New Atlantis.

Koff. I hear there already is New Atlantis... apparently iTunes messed up *headdesk* and put up 4x04 instead of 4x01. (I haven't seen it anywhere myself but no doubt it's floating around the internet by now.)

[identity profile] loves-bitch.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I tried to download it from Itunes but apparently they took it down already because it won't let me. I am waiting for someone to upload it somewhere. Because the prospect of new Atlantis makes me happy.

Wicked sky photo! What an amazing colour.

Kinda reminds me of this one that I took out of our upstairs window. Little did I know there was a tornado coming out of the bottom of it at the time!

I hope this image tag works...

I think I remember that one! Wow, looks almost like some alien skyscape.

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
That sky isbeautiful. And hey, you got free models! (Artist!sis normally takes at least one class just to get models.)

[identity profile] astridv.livejournal.com 2007-10-03 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'd pay for nude drawing class. But as to the clad variety of models, we'd mostly just sit down at high-frequented places and draw the people there. Even when they become aware, people don't mind, usually. The downside is that they never hold still when you need them to. :)

Your art makes me wish I watched that show. *g*

Heh. Weeell, just say the word and I'll give you the big recruiting post complete with fic recs. If you want to check out the show, I could upload an ep, just holler (haven't actually uploaded any vid files yet but it can't be too difficult). The fic is *really* good, and the show is fun to watch. *coaxes you*

I'm totally in lust with your Sheppard.

I'm insanely glad to hear that! This was actually the second attempt to color it, and it didn't take long at all, but before that I'd been struggling for ages with attempt #1. I did like this one but at a certain point you can't really tell for sure anymore, you know?

Ronon is very cool, and I love, love, love this Sheppard. ♥

[identity profile] astridv.livejournal.com 2007-10-03 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm *really* happy to hear that, 'cuz I'd been struggling quite a bit with this one: I went through a bit of "I suuuck", until I gave up and tossed my first attempt out and started fresh (which is always the better thing to do when stuck but I can be really stubborn and waste an hour on a drawing trying to salvage it, instead of just cutting my losses...)

Vampires are married by clergy? Unexpected, but touching. :D

I know, we were wondering about that. The priest didn't seem exactly happy to be there, though. And he became the wedding dinner afterwards.

[identity profile] crysothemis.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Ronon is great, but Sheppard? Slays me dead. The drawing is fantastic and the coloring brings it to life just perfectly.

*guh*

Really, really thrilled to hear that. *points to replies to steammmpunk and newkidfan above* :)

[identity profile] crysothemis.livejournal.com 2007-10-03 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Looking at it again, I think it's the color/shading around the eyes and mouth that bring it most to life. I totally understand the feeling of not being able to tell whether it's working because you've worked on it too long. But trust me on this one.

Also, I didn't mention it before, but your quick sketches are stunningly fabulous. They have so much character and gesture. I really love them.

I like the painting on bag.

Ronon! And oh, your Shep: really, really cool features, totally recognisable.

(And I love sky pictures like that.)

I got another pic from that same evening which looks even weirder, but it's on my other computer...

Your Sheppard is amazing; it looks just like him.

I'm glad you like it. This one was weird... I'd finished the inked sketch in about five minutes, only to spend ages on the coloring to get the likeness right.

[identity profile] sleepwalkerfish.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything you posted here and in the other posts you linked in the noticeboard are just... wonderful. Amazing, amazing work. Thank you. :-)

I really like your style - and am envious of your ability to get a likeness in a few lines. The picture of John is great - particularly the eyes, and the way you painted his hair.

Thanks. It took a little while to get that technique down, but once you got the hang of it it saves a whole lot of time. I don't really have the patience any more to do photorealistic likenesses. This is much more fun!
