Oh, looks like LJ is back up after it was down all morning. I'm gonna go through my profile and see if there aren't a couple more journals I can follow on DW instead.

An appeal to fic writers: please, crosspost your fic! At least to one other site. AO3, ffn, DW, anywhere not LJ... just so there's a backup.

I hate to say it because I've been on LJ for ages and had some good times here but I really feel that LJ is going down the drain. Definitely headed in a drain-adjacent direction, between the constant DDOS attacks and [livejournal.com profile] igrick sabotaging the site from within. (And you know, the more I think about it, the less sure I am that's just a crazy conspiracy theory, considering that the features that were broken on purpose were those that benefitted community building and discussion. And that apparently the Russian-language users aren't any happier with the changes than we are.)

I feel exactly the same way about LJ. It doesn't help when you read some of the translations Manonon has been posting of what's going on in the Russian side of things. Basically they've already discounted their "American" (= English language) user base.

I'm still pissed that a site that threw such hissy fits over breastfeeding and whatnot are allowing the designer/classy dude [personal profile] tema to NOT have any adult warnings on the "show your boobs for an iPad2" stuff he has over there. You know that nudity and porn doesn't bother me as such, but this is horribly exploitative stuff, it's definitely not safe for work, and it's COMPLETELY UNFLAGGED. I reported him to the abuse team AND sent them a feedback mail and have - of course! - heard absolutely nothing about it. And that creep is still posting nude women and voting on who has the best boobs.

Yep.

Ergh.

I may have rage issues. But the hope is that DW will make it all better! (At least I trust DW to stand up for me should someone, say, come after my icons or whatever. LJ I trust about as far as I can throw their servers. ...which might be far, though, since they're total lightweights and keep going down. >:I)

Thank you for the link to Mananon's site! Looking at these numbers (the graph of LJ activity since 2000) is quite telling. I wasn't sure if there had been an actual, noticeable impact -- obviously fandom has decamped to DW in a major way, but it's always hard to tell if you're just judging things based on your own little corner. But, uh, yeah, their numbers are plummeting.

I am so happy I finally moved over here. It's such a relief not to feel...attacked? disregarded? maliciously ignored? Whatever it is LJ's doing. Dreamwidth LIKES us.

And I've noticed that LJ hasn't said a word about the fixes to the new comment scheme after those two initial posts back in December.

It just makes me really, really glad that I've got a backup (though I'm still annoyed that all my DW entries are doubled; it double-imported me after changing my username). Because, yeah, it seems like LJ's been down more than it's up lately, and they keep making changes their users hate; I figure it's only a matter of time before it becomes more trouble than it's worth to use the site at all. (Though it could still be usable and active for five or ten years, for all I know. It's not going away tomorrow. But it's certainly not going to get better, and it's quite likely to get worse.)

Yeah, drain-adjacent. Good way to put it. Not quite lost but headed there. I find I'm on LJ less and less. Some comment memes are still there, but I really hope those and other comms will move here eventually now that you can import comms.

Yup, I jumped ship to DW some months ago. I reverted to a free account at LJ and moved my paid one to DW. I just got so fed up with the spambots and denial of service attacks - I wasn't even aware of all the other rubbish that was going on. Like you said, it's a shame because LJ was home for so long, but hurrah for DW giving us an awesome alternative.

I think you're right about LJ - there's no long term future for fandom, there. Except for the fact that there are still a few cherished people on my flist who are LJ-only, I'd be gone completely now. My fundamental issue with LJ is simply that we (meaning, fandom) are not part of its target user group or strategy or whatever you want to call it -- we're just a little enclave to be ignored. While I'm not evangelistically pro-DW, the one major advantage it has over LJ now is that DW is *for* us in a way that LJ sadly no longer is.
