art post
Since I got a few days off now, I figured I'd try again to find those pictures I've been wanting to post.
I found my old calligraphy sheets. I found the studies from nude drawing class. I found that a mouse had lived (and by lived I mean peed) in my large portfolio. And just as I was about to give up, I found those pictures I was looking for in a dusty corner. I have no recollection of putting them there, I only looked because by process of elimination it was the only place left where they could be. (Just, this is the first time that logic actually worked.)
Those were done for photography class, theme was 'Transparent Color'... that class had everyone riding through town for hours, photographing traffic lights and liquor bottles. I stumbled upon this approach by experimenting and dumb luck. No idea if I'll ever find an application for these, but I think they're kind of cool.

*mental note: clean scanner!*
I wanted to scan in some of the other artwork too, but I think first I'll pencil and ink the last scene of The Comic (no, haven't forgotten) which is already layouted. Then all that's missing is the second-to-last scene, which is halfway inked, just the missing part (containing the key scene, sigh, figures) is proving tricky.
Also found this piece of The Maxx* fanart by my flatmate. (Drawn during our The Maxx phase; if memory serves correct, roomie was working on an exhibition about medieval knights at the time...)

(*The Maxx is a comic series written and drawn by Sam Kieth. Both story and artwork are excellent and original, often surreal; I highly recommend it! Sam Kieth has been a major influence of mine, although it's probably not obvious in my current style.)

and the incongruity is seriously awesome.
She probably had to get those knights out of her head. Fanart, very therapeutic...

Yeah, wallpaper, I had the same thought. Been wondering whether it's possible to blend several of these into each other, with black screens inbetween. I'll look into that because I imagine that could be an interesting effect.

Hee. Yeah, actually there's some very famous ones by Man Ray (he called them "Rayographs," which is a much cooler sci-fi term, IMHO. Although when you show a class of students stuff like that before asking them to try it out for themselves, surprise, they have a hard time thinking of something new to do. Or at least not anything as cool as you came up with! (My Rayographs kinda sucked.)

Do you mind if I use them as stock for wallpapers, icons, etc? (that i'll credit you goes without saying, of course)

(Anonymous) 2008-07-04 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)You're very welcome to use them for your own purpose as long as my name's attached to them. Just don't share them with anyone (just in case I find some use for them, unlikely as it is...)

OK. I assume you mean I shouldn't share the source images with other people, not the final art? (if I ever have the time to make any :) )
Of course I won't give the images away, I'll direct people here instead.
And any art I make has resource info. Whenever I use things from my friends, they get mentioned specifically - everyone else is just listed in my resource post.
I hope that is what you meant and okay with you.
I'll just stare at the pretty colors a bit longer, then. :D

Yep, that's fine.
