fanart + fic rec

A few fanart prompt replies:
[livejournal.com profile] nudaydreamer wanted to see John and a puddlejumper. Well, John's pretty tiny in this one, but to make up for it it's got John, puddlejumper, and Atlantis. (OT3 *g*)

I need to buy a better scanner, the nuances of the coloring get lost with my old crappy one... [edit: fiddled with colors and contrast a bit]

This one's for [livejournal.com profile] newkidfan who wanted Rodney and Teyla doing the Athosian forehead thing:

fic rec (re-posting from over at [livejournal.com profile] stargategenrec):
Anger Management by [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper
Gen; Characters: Sheppard, Heightmeyer; 1,500 words
Summary: Conventional Earth therapy doesn't work so well in the Pegasus Galaxy, Kate discovers.

Fantastic characterization of Sheppard in the aftermath of 'Phantoms' and 'Common Ground'
snippet: "If you're too tired, John, we could continue this tomorrow," she said, and he jumped, yanking his gaze back to her face.

"Nope, I'm good." Too quick, maybe? He tried to read her face, but as always, her true feelings were hidden behind the professional mask. In honesty, he was tired, and scatterbrained; the feeling reminded him of being drugged, and it scared him, scared the hell out of him, although Carson said he didn't seem to have any of the enzyme in his system. Words like electrolytes and messed-up metabolism had been bandied about, along with more ominous words behind his back, words that could ground a pilot: depression, PTSD, obsession.
...
Past three am already... Again. I really have to try to go to bed earlier before I'm getting a sunlight-deficiency.

Yay, glad you like it.

Every picture ever should have Atlantis.

And now I'm wondering whether there's an Atlantis vid. I mean, starring the city as the main character...

[identity profile] crysothemis.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, these are marvelous! Your lineart is fabulous, your coloring subtle and lovely. I particularly like the sky in the jumper pic and um, okay, everything about the Rodney & Teyla pic. Wow.

[identity profile] crysothemis.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I'm back to say that you're right -- the watercolor on the "We're so screwed" Rodney is much better than the markers. I think it's actually because the dark-light balance is better. Suddenly the ink shading *looks* right, if that makes any sense. Anyway, lovely job.

I LOVE the sky in the first picture. The composition is cool, and Atlantis and the jumper look great, but the sky is fabulous.

[identity profile] astridv.livejournal.com 2007-11-07 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. The sky actually fell off a book cover - the drawing showed a happy kid and a happy dog, kid was splashing the dog with water, and this sky looked a tad too melodramatic with that kind of foreground. But I liked the random cloud formations and knew I'd find good use for it elsewhere. :) Yay recycling.

You're seriously such an amazing artist. You rock my world; I like both of these SO MUCH--like the show, but getting a certain heart the show doesn't always get. FABULOUS! (and I owe you words! I know! sorry)

Gorgeous art!
So tender and subtle and real!
And I love the use of shadows on the third painting. And the softness of Rodney & Teyla. And the feeling of space of the first painting.
Wonderful!!

The one with John in the 'jumper is rather pretty and I especially love Atlantis in the background.

Thanks. I was really pleased myself with how that one turned out, since Rodney isn't easy to draw.

This is utterly awesome : great work !

I just like Rodney sharp face lines on the last one, really interesting !.

And Rodney & Teyla are just... cute ! ;)

These are really lovely! I love the contrast between the hard, mechanical lines of the 'jumper and the soft watercolors of the sky in the first picture. And the Rodney-Teyla one is just nice -- nice composition, nicely shaded and colored, nice job on both their hair (yes, I always look at hair in drawings, I'm not sure why!). I really like these.

Oh, thanks. That really means a lot coming from you (just having seen your own stuff...)

The Rodney-Teyla one was a great prompt. I wouldn't have thought of drawing that scene, but I'm quite happy with the result.

The Teyla and Rodney pic is gorgeous, and I love the colouring of Teyla's hair. Tiny John in the puddlejumper - Yay! I really like the sky. Love Rodney's expression in the portrait - he is difficult to draw and that is a great likeness.

Oh! These are all marvelous. I love the wash of color in the sky in the first one, the lovely warmth of the second, and the third knocks my socks off. It's so *him*, but in a fabulous heightened reality way. Very cool.

Heh. I've struggled quite a bit with getting Rodney's likeness right, and I'm thinking the key to drawing this character may be not to be afraid to go big. *g* A little dramatic overstatement can't hurt.

Happy you like! The sky was a leftover from another project where it didn't quite fit... I liked what the watercolor did there though so I saved the aborted effort. Actually I'm thinking of taking a large sheet of Fabriano paper and just throwing some blue watercolor at it, see what interesting random cloud formations I can get for later use.

(I've been doing your beach scene, btw. Though there's not so much beach per se... ah, you'll see. Good thing I haven't colored it yesterday; looked at it today and decided that I need to re-draw Sheppard... he's not yet slouching convincingly enough.)
