Mildew?!? (there, that's a subject line I haven't used before)

So, this was an interesting morning. The people living in our basement came upstairs for help because their electricity went out, and the pump gave off a very loud, very worrying alarm sound. When I called the electrician, we saw the reason: there's mildew in the walls. Sorry, I meant there's MILDEW!!!!11!! The walls must be soaked; in one room the mildew reaches from floor to ceiling. And people are living and sleeping down there, not even aware of the health risk, apparently. I phoned property management and I think I managed to convey the urgency. Oh, a fun and productive way to spend a morning.

Work-wise, I'm only about two days away from finishing this one book, after which the chance for colored fanart is approximately as high as the chance for more rain. In other words, extremely high. And, I can finally color the book I inked earlier this year, which I had to put on the backburner for months in its half-finished state. I'm looking forward to finally finishing it, and it should be fun to color.

Speaking of rain, today there isn't any, so we'll go rollerblading this afternoon. :) In a lousy summer like this the trick is to soak up the rare ray of sunshine.

Eh, that whole alarm/mildew thing has screwed with my concentration. Have to get back to work now.

That much mildew is frightening. I hope it gets properly taken care of.

Oh man, me too. It's not just the mildew: the fuses kept blowing because of the humidity in the walls. Electrician guy disconnected three rooms, but that's not a lasting solution. The couple downstairs are from Sri Lanka and don't speak English or German too well; I'm not sure if I even managed to explain the problem well enough for them. When the power goes out again, they'll have to leave it off except for the pump... I'm almost sure that point didn't get across, so now I'm keeping an ear open for any more disturbing noise from the basement. Sigh.

Years ago when we had water in the basement, it had taken weeks and some extremely noisy machinery to dry them out again. Not really looking forward to that, but some action needs to be taken. Landlord guy is usually not one to react quickly to problems, but I hope Management lady can get things moving.

Of course that sort of thing always happens on a weekend.

Eek! It's amazing that they never said anything. I hope it's not that lethal mold I keep hearing about.

I'm three days from finishing Gulliver -- but then I have to color it. Big book, big book. Hopefully all the obsessive rendering makes coloring simpler.

I need to look for your receipt -- you gave it to me, right? I have a bag o' receipts from the trip. Just wanted to check in with you about the procedure after I find it.

Seriuosly. Well, last week someone who was (I think) sent by property management was down there and took a look at the mildew. So they knew what was going on, though they probably didn't see the whole extent.

The house next to hours had mildew as well... the stuff looked like something that grows on Yoghurt after you've let it sitting out for five weeks. That was two months ago, and I went to check our basement immediately - nothing. So the mold downstairs must be relatively new. But electrician guy says that the moisture in the walls can't have come overnight.

Those people downstairs have no idea what living in that kind of environment can do to your health. Well, I'm a little fuzzy on the details myself, but I do know that mildew = extremely unhealthy. And that's not even considering the problem with the fuses.

Gulliver - that's, what, sixty pages to color? Gulp. But the result should look awesome, judging by those inks I've seen.

My samurai book is only 24 small pages, and half of that is text, so it shouldn't take all that long.

Receipt: I'll have to check my papers, I just stuffed every receipt in a drawer and forgot about it. I don't remember what we're supposed to do. Did that guy said you or I would get mail from them? Well, I'll check my papers and get back to you. No sweat, it's not urgent.

Forgot to ask: lethal mold?

Gah, that's awful! When I worked in a bank, I was bulk teller, which meant many hours locked in a dingy little room with piles of cash. I used to sit on the floor to pack it into the ATM cassettes and when bagging coin and such. Could not work out why, for the entire time I was in there, I got a recurring sinus infection that never went away for more than a fortnight.

A couple of years later, after I'd left, they renovated the building and found a slow leak in the wall of that room, and underneath the carpet was thick with mildew. Ewwwwwwww! I felt like ringing human resources and asking for all that sick leave to be reinstated, since they were the ones who made me ill.

*shudder*

I wasn't thrilled either when I heard that they tore down our old kindergarten building because they'd found asbestos...
