yet more sketches (AtS)

This was supposed to be just a quick warm-up, but I got carried away with the facial studies. I want to do at least one of vamp!hero in action as well, but now I got to rush to Pilates class. Then, get some work done for a change. I got a feeling it's gonna be a long night... but then, I enjoy working at night, in front of the open window, without distractions.

Can you go work for IDW and do all their comics?

I love his intensity in these pics.

These are just ... gah!

Don't you love inarticulate feedback?

I love the bottom two!

I still owe you the happy amateur sketch. :-) (Okay, the broody amateur sketch. It's done, but I have to locate the scanner.)

Seriously, you are awesome.

Whoa, cool!

Gorgeous -- very economical and convincing. Great likeness! It's so hard to do that without rendering something clean through the page.

Happened to catch DB this morning on The View, a women's gab show. He was very buff and handsome, and went on and on about his magnificent taste in socks. The audience was full of squeeing fans of the female persuasion. *g* I like watching DB work a crowd: he's always relaxed and charming.

Then, get some work done for a change. I got a feeling it's gonna be a long night...

I'm trying to get rolling today and it's like I haven't held a pencil in six years. My brain feels like a ball of suet. Bleh. It's going to be hours of slow, painful, ugly rote work before I get back in the swing.

but then, I enjoy working at night, in front of the open window, without distractions.

Heh. I don't. It makes me feel like The Little Match Girl. Forlorn and ill used. *g* Definitely a morning person, me.

It's like your muse gave my muse a swift, well-placed kick in the butt. :o)

I still owe you the happy amateur sketch. :-) (Okay, the broody amateur sketch. It's done, but I have to locate the scanner.)

Cool, I look forward to seeing it.

I love how you can convey both the character and the feeling within him with such simple, clean lines. These really are awesome.

Thanks. Today went well work-wise. I thought he'd be harder to draw.

It's so hard to do that without rendering something clean through the page.

Indeed! That's why I make myself use eddings and brushpens instead of pencil. Forces me to reduce it to the essentials. It's easier if you can add gray shades, I think, but this is more interesting.

went on and on about his magnificent taste in socks.

Haha. I've seen very few interviews with him, but I heard he goes on about socks and the evils of chickens.

I'm trying to get rolling today and it's like I haven't held a pencil in six years. My brain feels like a ball of suet. Bleh. It's going to be hours of slow, painful, ugly rote work before I get back in the swing.

Yeah, the beginning is always hardest. Blank page syndrome. I really enjoy days like today and the past week, when I get a lot of stuff done and it seems effortless.

You know, my friend's parents brought us some powder that you're supposed to take in addition to your meals: minerals, vitamins, and so on (and caffeine!), and I'm starting to thing the stuff is really working little miracles. Maybe I'm imagining it, but it seems to help with the concentrating.

I'm totally the opposite. In the morning I want my tea, my paper, and a few hours to get into gear.

(reposted because of messed-up tags)

and do all their comics?

Eek. That'd probably be a lot more work and a lot less fun. Actually I talked to them last year, so you never know... but doing this stuff just for fun has definite advantages.

Pleased that you like!

but the bottom two are something special....

Yeah... he's actually cracking a smile in the last one. ;) (Looks a bit like Booth in that one, doesn't he, while the other ones are most definitely all Angel.)

*grin* That's what [livejournal.com profile] a2zmom said. This way it's less money but more fun though.

Ah, thanks. My goal was to keep the lines as simple as possible, because then you really get a feeling which areas and lines make a face unique and recognizable. I think I had a good day yesterday, I was a bit surprised myself how well he came across in these.

[identity profile] a2zmom.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I could see why doing it for fun had certain advantages. But the fact that you talked to them is damn awesome.

And I don't think that bottom one reminds me of Booth, because he really has a full out smile. That's about as happy as Angel ever gets and you captured it perfectly.

Stunning character studies love. Truly wonderful work.

wow, those really do look like Angel! you are so talented Astrid!
