fic rec: Bones

"The Princess in the Tower" by [livejournal.com profile] mooners

This story builds a compelling mystery right from the first line, and several intriguing plot lines will keep the reader guessing.

The fic is already finished and is posted a chapter every Monday; prologue and the first five chapters are up. I'm torn between thinking up ploys to bribe the author into updating faster, or being happy to have a new chapter to look forward to every Monday.

I could not imagine possibly having done SV without the stream of feedback as I went, both in terms of general encouragement and knowing that what I was doing was working (given I was really stretching my legs as a writer.)

*nod* WIP posting does has advantages. Certainly with a monster of a fic like SV. I couldn't imagine doing something this huge and time-intense without any immediate feedback. I have no willpower in that regard, anyway... as soon as I finish a page, I want to show at least a few people. And as you say, it's useful to get the immediate reactions to see if it's working like one thought. The reader reactions can be enlightening. (thinking back to a certain scene...)

And I admit, as a reader I'm warming up to the concept, too. The waiting is fun (in a masochistic way, I guess *g*)

But speaking as someone who's been burned by unfinished WIP dozens of times, it sure is nice to know a story is already complete so I can count on my weekly dosage.
