Rec of the day

In which Astrid recs Loki fic.

Loki Runway by [archiveofourown.org profile] Xparrot
Gen; Loki, Avengers, Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, and OCs; crack/humor/crossover/fashion (is that a genre?); rated G; 6336 words
Summary: Loki hadn't been observed with a new scepter, and there had yet to be another alien invasion, but he was still a supervillain. SHIELD was on high alert for three months.
Which was when the new season of Project Runway started airing, and one of the designers strutting his stuff in the opening, boldly declaring, "I'll show you mortals how to make it work," set off every facial recognition program SHIELD had.

All right, so the idea of Loki as a sympathetic character is not appealing to me which is why I don't read much Loki fic. But the summary for this fic sounded so cracky that it was irresistable and it was really impossible for me to withstand the charm of this story. So, reccing this one not just for Loki fans. It is just hilariously cracky all around (and really brilliant in the way it works, to a degree*, within the logic of both verses **). And Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are kind of awesome in their roles, as are the OCs.

* Well, it's not the most in character I've ever seen the Avengers. But hey, it's crack.
**As a side effect I plan to watch Project Runway now. (I have a secret weakness for certain kinds of reality shows.)

Project Runway really is an awesome show.

I would love sympathetic Loki fic if they took the time to have him work through all his myriad issues, get some therapy, ACTUALLY BE SORRY, or at least acknowledge that things had changed and he's forced to work with the Avengers while being a shit, things like that.

Farscape has totally spoiled me with its villains. If a fan author would give Loki the same treatment that Farscape gave, for example, Crais or Scorpius, I would eat that up. With chocolate sauce on top.

I need that show in my life stat. ^^

Farscape has, I am not kidding you, spoiled me for any other science fiction ever in my entire life. It's honestly one of the gold standards for plotting and characterization, and actual development of personalities and relationships. All while having no fear of breaking their characters irreparably. Also, Muppets.

*ahem* I love it like pie.

I read one I found reasonably convincing (and really fun) but that one rebooted him back to being a kid.

Is that the fic that's the super acclaimed one? Because I had some huge problems with that one, honestly. I've mostly been keeping my mouth shut because I have a habit of not wanting to offend people by critiquing their favorite fics.
