Saw Kita0610 and Monanotlisa do this... the fannish me in a nutshell:

I love Buffy, Angel, Connor, and Spike, because they're messed up and conflicted. And Cordelia, just because. My OTP at the moment is C/A, and I loved S6 Spuffy. While I prefer C/A fanfic to what ME hands us (gee, I wonder why) I've always liked S/B much better on the show. I'm one of the handfull of people who think that Buffy S6 is one of the best seasons. I think writing Connor out of the show is about the stupidest thing ME could do, but at least he got a great send-off. I more or less like all the characters on both shows; even Riley grew on me once he traded his superpowers for a personality. I don't care for aggressive shipping, no matter the character, and loathe character bashing, Real People Fic, and spoilers with a passion. I liked Happy Anniversary and Doublemeat Palace. I thought the AR in Seeing Red was necessary to ground the character again. At times I like to hear myself talk.

I agree they dropped most of their balls halfway through season 7. But that doesn't affect how I view season 6. I'd expected much more out of the B/S relationship in s7 myself, and I don't mean a happy end. Like you said, the character development left to be desired. But then, in s7 we have a general weakness in the characterization - between Joss's precious power-sharing theme and the flock of SITs, the writers just lost track of their characters (and I'm not even getting into the lame villain, the thousands of boring speeches and the lack of plot in the last dozen or so eps.)

But actually, I think Buffy was one of the few who were acting in a believable manner. I mean, yeah, her actions and decisions weren't exactly perfect or rational, and at times I found it hard to sympathize with her. But I could always see where she was coming from. She's just a 22?-year-old with a lot on her plate. My problem with s7 Buffy was that this whole alienation-arc was written so sluggishly and was ultimately too predictable (was there anyone actually shocked or surprised by the mutiny? My only thought was 'about time'). Too long build-up, too little payoff.

Yup, the magic/addiction metaphor was no stroke of genius, no argument there. But then, for me s6 was all about Buffy. Her storyline, and the relationship with Spike were what got me hooked.

Plus, s6 gave us OMWF :)
