more genficathon recs/DW musings

Aidan's Tale by [To Be Revealed]
gen; PG; Ford, Kiryk, and other recurring characters; post-finale; 3,000 words
Summary: Post-series, Aidan Ford and Kiryk are off to find Atlantis.

This fic gives closure to Aidan Ford's story, and ties up a whole number of loose threads in a very satisfying way. I really enjoyed it.

The Sting by [To Be Revealed]
gen; PG; team; Action/Adventure; 13,600~
Summary: The team has to go undercover to root out the latest threat to Pegasus. A drug dealer trafficking the Wraith enzyme. Who’s going to con who? And most importantly. Who has the coolest costume? Team fic. Lots of guns, fights, and insults.

This fic had a cool plot and nicely balances drama with humor and teamy goodness. And it has the team undercover, in costume. :) The scenario is really plausibe; I could easily see this as an episode. (And what I'd give to see the Flan & Co act this out...)

I've been thinking about creating a separate Dreamwidth account under my last name (not connected to my fannish one) where I can upload original art. I'm not happy with my current gallery site because their interface is clunky as hell and as a result, I never update which makes it rather pointless. LJ's and thusly DW's format, I'm comfortable with, so it may actually work better for me even if showcasing art is not its primary purpose. Works well enough for fanart. *ponders*

First though I have fool around with the DW styles options some more. Right now the bar on the right side is overlaying the comic pages, and I haven't seen an option (yet) where you can set format=light as a default after clicking on any post in my journal - that's the way I configured my LJ.

I don't know about displaying the pages in the light format, but you can choose to display them in the default site scheme. I have set my journal and a community set up this way precisely because of the image issue. During closed beta some of the site styles didn't have a checkbox for that yet and you had to set it manually in your user layer, but I think now you can choose this in the style settings for the layouts. You go to "customize style" and then under "basic options" there is "Show entry pages in my journal style rather than the app style" which needs to be unchecked for the pages to appear in the standard site scheme. (IMO calling it "app style" is a bit confusing, but that's the option you need.)

Yeah, I have fiddled with the stylesheet too, right now I use the core 2 testing with two columns and made the css so as to display the icons left and the names under the icons (I hate when they are elsewhere). There is still a number of things that bug me, some that I never realized I used, but it turns out I miss them when they are not there. Like in the page summary module the names are not displayed (which is apparently a bug) and the comment count neither. I guess that's the drawbacks of it still being in beta.
