Ouch. I once spilled steaming hot Dunkin Donuts coffee on my lap. Talk about not a fun thing! ((HUGS))

A lesson I have learned, through my journey through life is; never ever make tea if you are drunk, or more accurate very drunk. Lost all my skin, on my over side of my left hand. Had my burned hand ,more or less constantly in water for 36 hours. You have my deepest sympathy, ouch.

Holy shit! I got just two fingers, fortunately. Though really, I never would have thought you could burn yourself like this with a bloody cup of tea. The whole hand... don't even wanna imagine. gulp.

Kinda makes me feel better in a twisted 'misery loves company' way. Or maybe it's feeling better because I dunked the hand in water the very second after and remained like that all afternoon. I hope it'll be okay by tomorrow. got some big-ass blisters though, man. I'd kick myself but I wouldn't want to spill the cold water bucket.

Burns hurt. Rotten burns!

But I agree with you about the right-hand-left-hand thing. Everytime I get a ding (and it's often, because I'm absurdly accident prone) I take stock and find myself saying: At least it's not the drawing hand!

When I was working at the helljob I took out a dismemberment policy. Heh. It's designed for farmers but I figured, hey, maual labor is manual labor.

Yeah, not too bad. As long as it's in cool water it doesn't even hurt much. Just a bit of a handicap at the moment to take the bucket everywhere. A rather clunky accessoire.

I'd thought about that policy but was told that it's quite expensive. Something to mull over...

[identity profile] jwaneeta.livejournal.com 2004-09-25 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It was dirt cheap, the one I had. Something like $2.85 a month. Of course I got a small break as an employee, but mostly the cheapness was because it was a company that regularly insured farmers.

Anything like that where you are? Maybe an agri-insurance company has cheaper policies than one that regularly insures artists?

It's kind of like getting oil painting supplies. I get my linseed oil by the gallon jug at a hardware store -- about $3. It works just as well as the Grumbacher that costs $9 for a tiny jar at the art supply place. Same for masonite.

I won't talk about the fact that I *koff* clean my brushes with dish liquid *koff* -- because then you'll think I'm just a crazy cheap person. :D

Ai, self- insurance. I have to start thinking about that again. Bleh.

2.85? No kidding. What I was told about was more in the three-figure (DM then) ranges. It was completely out of the question. farmers, huh. Maybe I'll look into that. I'll have to think about insurance when I got more spare cash.

supplies: yeah, my friend recently discovered a wholesale art supplier. And what I didn't know, as artists we're entitled to shop there! Everything's 50% off regular store prices. Their catalogue is 2 inches thick. It's like christmasland :)

Nope, cold water :) Worked like a charm; all I had to do was keep the hand in cold water for ten hours. I even could get a good night's sleep after that (trusty waterbucket by the bed, of course).
