fic rec (SGA)/ graphic novel rec

Um... who would answer 'yes' to this question LJ just asked me: Do you want to allow third parties to republish your Content? A world of no!

gen; Jennifer Keller & John Sheppard; humor; spoilers: reference to Doppleganger; 1,972 words
Summary: A conversation between Dr. Keller and Colonel Sheppard goes slightly awry, for both parties.

A cute, funny Keller POV fic set in the infirmary. I love the Jennifer voice and the way she's characterized - competent in doctor mode, slightly dorky and bumbling when it comes to social matters. Though here, Sheppard has her beat on the bumbling front... his hemming and hawing and their attempts at communicating are fun to read.

I signed up to rec Rodney/Teyla next :)... hard to believe as it is, none of my favorite Rodney/Teyla fics has been rec'd there yet!

I read the most amazing graphic novel today: Muchacho by Emmanuel Lepage, one of my favorite artists. This is the first story that has gripped me in a long time, that is not fanfic -- that *really* says something. :)
This story is set in Nicaraqua, in 1976: young seminarist Gabriel de la Serna, a shy, sensitive budding artist who grew up protected in an influential family, gets sent to a small village in the jungle to paint a fresco for their church. There he has his eyes opened to the suffering and injustice going on in his country and gets involved with the Sandinistas. Just as fascinating is his personal journey... his growing as an artist, his coming to terms with his gayness. The story kept surprising me through the end. Can't rec this highly enough. (The only downside is that I couldn't find an English translation... damn shame. However it's been translated from French into German at least.)

Take a look at the artwork, it's gorgeous... every single page is a feast for the eyes, and the story is 160 pages long.

Thanks for the comic rec! This sounds fascinating. I will have to check it out. To bad that comics are always so expensive (I guess part is the higher printing costs compared to books). Maybe my local library will have a copy...

You won't be disappointed. It'd be worth reading for the detailed, atmospheric art alone but the story is excellent, too. And it seems extremely well-researched. Either he's spent some time in South America or he's the Research Wizard.

If you like I can borrow you my copy.

Thanks, that's a nice offer. I checked my library's catalog though, and they have the comic. Right now unfortunately both copies are loaned out, but the database tells me at least one should be back soon. :)
