I'm still buried under that heap of work... but the good news is that I dug my way halfway through. Seven more weeks to go. The bad news is that I caught the roommate's cold last week, and had to work through it which just sucked. Also had to postpone the visit to my dad's this weekend, which also sucks; fortunately he was very understanding. Doesn't really make much sense to carry that bug further around. The upside is that instead of sitting on a train, I suddenly had a whole day to myself, so I spent the whole afternoon lying on my bed and watching tv. Um. American Idol. (I can't help it, I got hooked onto the show after we met those folks in San Diego who went to audition. Guilty pleasure.)

Eh, what's with the sudden outburst of Kellerhate on the story/genrefinders comms? I thought by getting rid of [livejournal.com profile] mckay_sheppard I finally filtered that stuff out. Maybe just coincidence. I hope... those are comms I definitely don't want to defriend; I'm getting way too much entertainment out of them. But man, when I read storyfinders I expect to see something like "I'm looking for this fic," not "My thoughts on Keller, let me show you them." I really, really, don't care to hear them. :P

My brain's too mushy to write a decent fic rec (no headache though, yay :). But to up the value of this post, a quick linkage (via [livejournal.com profile] monanotlisa):Vampires and the Women Who Love Them by [livejournal.com profile] st_salieri -- What would happen if Buffy Summers, Bella Swan and Sookie Stackhouse sat down for a little chat with an inquisitive talk show host?

Aw, I remember those Idol contestants. They were sweet. :)

Sorry you have the crud, and hope the rest helps you.

Ditto on the crud... hope yours is finally clearing up, too!

I can now report that an idle afternoon of non-stop Idol watching makes a surprisingly good cure! I'm feeling a lot better today.

I can relate on having catching the (a?) cold, and it's messing up once work.

And yes go to bed and get well

Yeah, it looks like almost everyone's sick at the moment. Half our town is coughing... guess it was inevitable to catch it.

Eh, what's with the sudden outburst of Kellerhate on the story/genrefinders comms?

I thought the same thing, until I noticed it was the same poster. I don't think she got a whole lot of response, so either people are not interested, or there is not that much fic out there that fits her request. Both good things. :)

Hope you feel better soon. My cold took 8 days.

Also, great rec. *g*

[identity profile] astridv.livejournal.com 2009-02-08 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
There was at least one other poster (though apparently 'inspired' by the first one). And to top it off, there were those requests for fic in which Rodney or John get captured and the other one happily trades Elizabeth for them (words fail I can already tell by the description that those are masterpieces of characterization). And all that within a day or so. *twitch* But yeah, looks more like coincidence, not like a general trend.

Hope you feel better soon. My cold took 8 days.

Actually the high dosage of American Idol combined with a day of doing *nothing at all* seemed to have helped a lot.

I'm with icon!rat.

Why would anyone think those comms are yet another good place to share their views about how Keller is an omgbad! doctor? That's what ones LJ is for.

What annoys me so, of course, is that to respond would be OT.

Yeah, storyfinder comms aren't really a good place for discussion. Reading that I kept thinking that nobody ever asks for stories that focus on how Rodney is obviously clueless about physics and engineering no matter what the series claims, because all the technobabble isn't real science and doesn't hold up to what a fifth grader knows about physics. Or how Sheppard is a bad soldier because the military procedures are nothing of the sort. I mean seriously. The medicine and practices are wonky sometimes, because they are there for the SGA-type of not-hard SF, you just have to suspend disbelief, the whole series totally collapses once you try to hold characteres to any realistic standards.

Yeah, that's what I wanted to comment with, but couldn't, because it's not a bloody discussion community.

*nodnodnod*

Or how Carson didn't have a clue about medicine either, because the writers don't have a clue about medicine. Strange how it didn't bother anyone when it was Carson getting the medical facts wrong.

Of course, suspension of disbelief doesn't work when the character in question has dared to come between the OTP. And that's what it boils down to.

I'm not a big fan of Keller's character as written, particularly near the end of the series, but I was offended by those posts, too. Anyone who says, "Character X is obviously (insert bad thing)" is either tone deaf for their tone or purposely trying to start something.

And the point you and [livejournal.com profile] ratcreature make, above, that people don't make similar requests over McKay's bad science or John's bad military knowledge? Dead-on true. That's the OTP effect, and/or misogyny. I mean, how would people feel if someone wrote the request, "Since John and Rodney are obviously both heterosexual and are merely friends, and John's obviously meant for Elizabeth and Rodney for Keller..." Eeek! I can hardly write it! *grin* (You probably know I'm an OTPer for them myself. :)) Though honestly, I theoretically liked the keller/mckay idea *for the purposes of canon*, they just executed it badly imo, and also left John all lonely!! :(

Other searches have made me boggle in the past, but these particular anti-Keller ones were blatantly opinion pieces rather than just someone's somewhat odd OOC wishes.

Now an evil little part of me wants to post that as a request at [livejournal.com profile] sgagenrefinders and count down the seconds to wank. *eg*

It'd be an interesting experiment. Okay, it'd also be trolling and get me banned from that comm and I'm not ever gonna consider it... it'd drive the point home, though.

It really makes me glad that you as an OTPer would say that too!

It's not the first time anti-Keller fans have hijacked fandom-wide comms as their personal soap boxes either - over the weeks there've been a number of posts at the noticeboard in the same vein. It's a very annoying way of broadcasting ones opinion across fandom whether your audience wants to hear it or not.

Okay, in the greater scheme of things it's, well, not very important. But da-yamn, it grates.

That is true, they paired up all the others of the team with someone, but not John. Maybe he is in a monogamous relationship with Atlantis? Or hanging out with Woolsey. Really, there should be more Sheppard/Woolsey fic. I can only remember reading one story with that pairing.

Which one was that dream fic again, in which Woolsey was making out with his conference room table? That's gonna be my new OTP. Woolsey/table FTW!

No, if you had you probably would remember that scene. I think it was a Rodney&Daniel story, in which an Ancient Device (man, I love that plot device so much ♥) subjects them to everybody's dreams and they learn more than they ever cared to know about their fellow Lanteans. And apparently Woolsey, deep down, really likes his table.
