I posted a last-minute contribution for [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic's amnesty. Click on the preview pic for a full image. (Spoilers for 5x17 Infection; won't make much sense if you haven't seen the ep.)

I'd planned to post this in a different format, but given that tonight is New Year's, with Fondue and maybe even a game of Clue, and tomorrow we want to go iceskating (yayz. *Rare* pleasure around here!) I probably wouldn't have enough time to get it posted before the deadline. I'll postpone the experimental art until next year.

This year decided to give me a goodbye kick in the butt - some #$$hole stole my bike last night, right from where I'd parked it in front of my window. Fourth bike I had stolen. Fortunately I could borrow one from a friend so at least this won't interfere with the iceskating plans. Just, I had imagined better things to do on Friday than call the insurance company and get hold of a new bike (and I loved this bike, it was awesome. It was comfy. It was fast. The lights worked when it was raining. Whine.) Anyway...

Happy New Year to all of you, and as we say in Germany, Guten Rutsch!

Yikes, that sucks with the bike. Almost everyone I know without a sturdy bike shed carries their bikes up into their apartments. The only alternative seems to be to resign yourself to a sort of circle trafficking that finances other people's drug habits, i.e. you actually buy one of the bikes random junkies offer you on the street for cheap and then don't care that you get to keep it only for a little while, because it'll be stolen again. Though obviously it's kind of problematic to buy something that you are nearly sure was stolen. But I know a couple of people who have just given up on keeping their bike for long.

Guten Rutsch to you as well!

Getting a crappy bike is just not an option for me. I use my bike a lot - like 6 hours a week, at least. So I want one that covers some distance without turning ones legs into pudding. Insurance is a good solution, though. The last company paid the full price in all three cases... I hope my new one won't make any trouble either.

It's still a hassle, though. I hope I won't have to go to the police to report the theft, which would be just a waste of time.

But I know a couple of people who have just given up on keeping their bike for long.

Yeah, I was actually surprised when my last one never got stolen. I kept waiting for it to happen, because it wasn't very good, and I wanted a new one. But that one they didn't take. Figures :P

Goeie jaarwisseling en Gelukkig Nieuwjaar!

And darn about the bike. I've had four stolen and I've given up on getting a new one. I'm now getting around as nature intended. :D

Happy New Year to you too, Laurie! I hope we'll share many a fandom again in the future. :)

I haven't got my new bike yet, because the really good store is on the other side of town and it's tricky getting there without a bike. (Irony can really suck.) But I called the insurance people and it sounds like they'll be paying without major hassle, so I'm content.
