The Stargate panels were a big helping of awesome with a cherry on top (the cherry being the shiny Stargate Worlds t-shirt we got. Totally worth missing my copyright seminar over. Richard Dean Anderson is funny as hell. And the Atlantis s5 trailer looked *really* promising!

Oh, oh, fandom. Can't type very well on this keyboard but here's my 2 cents on those things that're making the rounds right now (in bullet point format):

-re. partly_bouncy: Oh man, you have no idea how hard it's been not to comment, and if I hadn't been at a clunky hostel keyboard that day, I would've written a lengthy rant, because she's crossed the line from merely obnoxious to vicious and destructive. But I have a feeling that plenty of others have posted on that by now.
-re. fanlib: *points and laughs*

What's up with 'partly-bouncy'? Where's the stink?
I found the LJ and saw a bunch of possibly pretentious/faux meta, but didn't obviously spot the fire.
I did find the articles blowing sunshine wrt the prospects of FanLib to be amusing -- nice traffic charts which totally ommitted FFN form the mix.

Plus, typing of them American keyboards is still somewhat of a pain, my train of thought keeps getting interrupted because the characters aren't at the right place. snort. Every "article" by her I've read was like that... completely biased and badly composed. She's the worst journalist in the history of journalism. Probably why she decided to go into the business of selling out fandom to make a living.

I wanted to edit my blank Bio to add "Kiss my ass!" but that would have required registering :)
However, I'm leery of some of the "selling out/exploiting fans" rhetoric that borders on the knee-jerk.
I'm not anti-business, far from it.
I have no problem with people making money -- they just need to be up front about it, and deliver some sort of value in return, something more than just a warm fuzzy, while they hope to laugh all the way to the bank.
There needs to be a true mutual benefit, not a fraudulent, parasitic one way street.
She does seem to fall in the latter category ;)
She was probably spouting flattering things about FanLibs prospects because she wanted to look like a player in that space herself.

It's not knee-jerk, not from where I'm standing. Thing is, this didn't start just now, this has been a long time coming and people have been steaming quietly until now. And the information is very throughly gathered, leaving just this conclusion.

Exaclty. She's a destructive influence, instead of contributing to the community. Parasite, that nails it.
Few people will envy Xing any money he's making running ffn; he's doing a hellu job and providing a valuable product. More importantly, he didn't start out to make a profitable site, that's just the way it grew.
Anyway, gotta go to bed, early bus to catch...
