Here's the final* version of the planetside scene of McKay, Sheppard, and a bunch of possibly snake-worshipping aliens. Now with background. (background sketch here)

*Okay, when I say 'final' I still see a dozen details I could tinker with, but you gotta find an end at one point. Maybedefinitely later I'll fix a few more things.





I ended up painting both fore- and background in traditional media and then putting them together in Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro (... switched to PSP as soon as essential changes were done, because that program is about a million times faster.)

Oh my god, that's fantastic. The look on Rodney's mouth! And the coloring is simply gorgeous -- so rich and evocative. The aliens are truly alien and creepy. And the water dripping down the stair . . . Just captures my imagination.

Clothes contrasts is excellent and the brown/yellow colors made me think of desert/dry planet where they definitely did not check it out...

this is gorgeous! and the details are magnificent: the expressions on the faces (Rodney's is especially authentic), the costumes, the weapons, the setting are all wonderful. And the action! It looks like a screencapture of an action scene--like something is happening that we're just getting the tiniest moment of. so, the story you're telling here.... wow, just wow...

That looks fantastic! The digital glue is flawless. The background totally makes the picture. And my new favorite part is the water running down the stairs and pooling on the floor. Fabulous work on both the traditional and digital ends!

It really does. The moment that vault appeared before my inner eye, I knew I'd have to add it or the scene would be only half as satisfying.

Pasting the foreground in wasn't half as complicated as I'd anticipated; PS didn't give me this halo line around the cut-out shape that I always got in PSP. And these layers are pretty cool to work with (though still confusing).

Great job!! What traditional media did you do that in? It looks a bit like copic or Prisma marker. :)

I printed the inked scene on watercolor paper and painted it with watercolors and acrylics (plus a bold glaze of ecoline in the left corner that had me cursing for a while... ecoline isn't exactly subtle).

I used to work a lot with copic markers, but I haven't used them as much in recent years.

Oh WOW! That is so cool. Rodney really looks like Rodney; Sheppard really looks like Sheppard. I love their expressions and the motion in their posture. I even like the evil-doing natives. Beautifully done!
