my cross-fandom-favorite-vids meme

Thanks to whoever nominated my stuff for McShep awards, I'm tickled pink. (I remember how not so long ago I was wondering which one was Rodney and which one John...:) I just hope I didn't mess up that survey - my browser and firewall are always set to 'extra-paranoid' and at first I couldn't at all see those categories it was telling me about. Think I finally figured it out though.

Okay, now. I'm still waiting for feedback on the one project... without it, I'm stuck. In the transition phase between one editor who left and another who just started (and probably has a desk full of of stacks of folders threatening to topple over.) I've since sketched two pieces of cover art and three double-spreads for some future project. But what I really want to work on is that thing I can't work on, without the feedback. And I'm finding it hard to concentrate on anything else. I'm even somewhat blocked for fanart, because the little voice in the back of my head nags me to work on the more pressing stuff instead. Which I can't.

So what the hell, I'll post this and then I'll get to the drawing board and sketch *something*. There's this one page of comic I got for SGA, which I layouted but never pencilled because while the idea amused me it's also kinda pointless. I think I amuse easy. Maybe I can find a way to make it less pointless. Or I work on scenario #2 which I think has real potential, if I could just get my mind in the zone again. Stupid block.

Anyway, as a means of procrastination, I'm doing a "My Ten Favorite Vids" meme. Yes, this is me fishing for vid recs but I thought this way it's more fun. Anybody want to play? Here're mine

Us by [livejournal.com profile] lim; multi-fandom
Doesn't matter which fandom you're in... this vid's about all of us, this community and the stories that bring it together. If we're living in a den of thieves, I wouldn't want it any other way. :)

My Brilliant Idea by [livejournal.com profile] lim (dl link); SGA
(the vid that converted me to SGA. 'nuff said. McShep.)

Jesus Walks by [livejournal.com profile] mimesere, song by Kanye West; AtS, Gunn
"The only thing I pray is that my feet don't fail me now."

Angel Trailer by Robert Flannigan, music by Robert Duncan, from 'Chosen'
A trailer for 'Not Fade Away' that embodies the spirit of the show, not just the finale.. WB? This is how it's done.

Black Suits Comin' by imation; AtS
Summary: The Fang Gang as the MIB

Whatever by [livejournal.com profile] sisabet and Luminosity ([livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett); AtS
We don't call it 'my dead gay show' for nothing.

Closer by [livejournal.com profile] sisabet, Song: Nine Inch Nails.; AtS
Still the Angel/Spike vid.

Written By The Victors: The Vid by [livejournal.com profile] queenzulu; SGA
It's amazing how this vid makes [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's story feel even more real.

Skullcrusher Mountain by [livejournal.com profile] froggimus_rex; Bones
Summary: Can the love between a hapless FBI agent and a crazed forensic anthropologist, her assistant and loyal henchpeople, and a monkey-pony monster make it in this world?

I am/Lamb by [livejournal.com profile] lim, SGA
music: The Mercy Seat by Johnny Cash
A visually stunning look into the mind of John Sheppard.

This is such a great list, Astrid. Thank you.

One suggestion: please use a cut-tag, so we can bookmark it.

Thanks again.

Done, good point.

A vid rec list! Yay! I really like those and you have good taste. (I have Whatever on CD somewhere but God knows...)

I also have an editor who's... missing. He always is, actually. When I finish a job I never hear if it's okay -- or needs revisions -- even when I ask directly. Sooner or later, so far, a check shows up. He takes "no news is good news" to a whole new level.

[identity profile] astridv.livejournal.com 2007-11-20 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, definitely a case of "no news is good news".

Mine falls more in the "no news makes me ready to tear out my hair" category... sigh. Well, I called today. I waited as long as I could without fidgeting 'cause I didn't want to pressure anyone but I really wanted our project moved closer to the top of the stack. If I have to wait much longer I'm gonna be so screwed, deadline-wise, come December and January, and the thought is starting to make me twitchy.

Do you often get a lot of revisions from that particular imprint? Because you sould just get started and cross your fingers. Risky, I know...
ext_2027: (Default)

[identity profile] astridv.livejournal.com 2007-11-20 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm, yeah, risky. Also, new editor makes it hard to anticipate. Most of the time I just get minor revisions, though I'm pretty sure I'll have to resize and slightly rearrange some pages to leave more room for the text. (With this particular series I tend to be like, "Oh, right, there's text... just squeeze it in somewhere," *handwave*)

But I guess if I don't hear back by tomorrow, I'll just pick the page I like best and start the final drawing so I make at least some progress.

Favourite 10 vids?

Hmmm, this is a TOUGH one!

In no particular order:

Living Dead Girl (http://stage6.divx.com/user/bradcpu/video/1817540/Audio-commentary---Living-Dead-Girl) by [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu, song by Rob Zombie. "Only one sure way to bring the giant down. A Faith video." (The commentary for this is really interesting, too.)

Wires (http://obsessive24.net/videos.html) by [livejournal.com profile] obsessive24, song by Athlete. "Simon. River. Love. Simon POV, optional crazy space incest. Firefly/Serenity footage, and audio from the R. Tam Sessions."

New Frontier (http://www.heresluck.net/videos/index.html) by [livejournal.com profile] heresluck, music by Benefits Of Being Paranoid. "Where good deeds are few and far between." Serenity.

Snakes On A Plane (http://dualbunny.livejournal.com/107648.html) by [livejournal.com profile] dualbunny, music by Cobra Starship. "Harry has *had* it with the motherfuckin' snakes on his motherfuckin' broom!" Harry Potter. (yes, really!)

Blade (http://aimee.inner-demons.org/blade.php) by Aimee. Audio for the Blade movie trailer with Angel graphics. The best mock-trailer I've ever seen.

Haunted (http://astarte.imeem.com/video/5lNdkuHQ/astarte_ats_haunted/) by [livejournal.com profile] astartexx, music by Poe. An AU look at a universe where Cordy and Spike share the visions.

Move Your Feet (http://www.deadbutstillpretty.com/videos.html) by Rowena, music by Junior Senior. Fantastic episodic of BTVS Once More With Feeling. Sadly her site is offline, but I have the vid on my hard drive.

Memories by Sadique. I can't find her site anymore, but this is an ingenious piece where Buffy's speech in "Propechy Girl" is set to Christophe Beck's "The Gift."

Whatever and Southwest Voodoo (http://www.slum.slashcity.com/lum/eyecandy/) by Luminosity and Sisabet, music by T-Bal and BJ and Insane Clown Posse respectively. Two classics. Like you said, Astrid, all about our dead, gay show. Southwest Voodoo was one of the first music vids I ever saw, and it still stands as one of the best constructed. BTVS. Evil Willow at her finest.

Down With The Sickness (http://www.morbidmuch.com/angelmvs.html) by Ryan, music by Disturbed. The evil women of ATS.

Oops, that was 11!

Yay, thanks. I don't know some of these yet.

[identity profile] littleheaven70.livejournal.com 2007-11-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome. New Frontier may well be the best vid I've ever seen. Not because of the technical qualities, but the parallel imagery just blows me away every time.

Just watched; it's really good. Beautiful too. (I'll have to look up the text though, because a lot of the vid goes over my head otherwise.)

Also watched Snakes on a Plane and noticed how much *cooler* it looks than the HP movies.

Doesn't Voldemort look so awesome in that vid?

Thanks a lot for the recs! I'd like to return the favor but all my favorites keep getting deleted off of Youtube. I'll see what I can track down later. I have at least three that I can think of.

Cool.

but all my favorites keep getting deleted off of Youtube

Yeah, that's why I prefer to download my vids and watch them on my computer... those links are so fickle and can disappear all of a sudden. There's one Angel/Spike that I adore, 'Moonlight Serenade', which I lost in a HD wipe and now can't find anywhere on the web.
