You reccers out there: ever taken heat for reccing the stories you like (as opposed to reccing the stories others like)? If so, go to this entry by [livejournal.com profile] fairestcat for a cathartic giggle. Or a shared groan. (via metafandom)
And my initial question still stands. And a corrolary to my initial question. How is my telling people what popular stories I like preventing other people from telling people what obscure gems they like.
Sigh. Back when I was modding bbf, I felt like posting that exact sentence on more than one occasion. In all caps.

Back to the drawing board, I'm still on a roll. Haven't read most of flist but I'm making good progress work-wise. Even though yesterday I suddenly realized I'd switched paper brands... and that does not go over well at the print shop. So rather than taking chances with the quality of the printed artwork, I bit the bullet and re-drew the first three pages. Cost me over an hour but my peace of mind is worth that.

That reccing thing is making me feel ill. Some of the stuff I rec is obscure. Some is incredibly popular. All of it is a labor of love on my part. Don't like it? Don't read it, how about.

As someone who has found some wonderful stories via your recs, and others on my flist, this makes me go bwah? I mean, isn't the point of reccing something that it's a story you enjoyed and think is worth sharing?
I have rec'd things I've read, just for that reason.
:is baffled:
Oh, and the wank about the pseudocides? hilarious. :shakes head: People really do that???

Well, I never had any trouble since I started reccing in my own journal... that would be beyond ridiculous - though several times I've read about other reccers who had people bitch about the recs they'd posted in their private journals, wtf.

But yup, over the years I've had a bit of shit flung in my general direction when it comes to BetterBuffyFics recs... some people seem to be under the impression that a recs community is some sort of institution and thus owes to give an unbiased spectrum of fanfic recs, while indeed it's just a couple hundred individuals, each one reccing what they like.

It's kind of bizarre to find yourself being called member of the Spike Cabal (if you're indeed a C/A shipper who couldn't care less about Spuffy)... or, better yet, a homophobe (even if half of what you rec happens to be slash). *deep breath* Countless times people were actually complaining when recs of their favourite stories didn't get seconded... rather than taking the 30 seconds it takes to become proactive and second the rec themselves. *deeper breath*

That's really a major advantage to reccing in one's own journal - it would take a lot of nerve to bitch about someone's private recs (though it still happens, apparently ;P.)

They do that a lot. I've seen three or four of those since I'm reading Fandom Wank. There was a hilarious one where the dying one typed from her hospital bed, like this: "I... I don't think I'll... m-make it."

There's a name for it, Munchausen by Internet Syndromey.

I can type too...

Well, here are the cliff notes (http://wiki.fandomwank.com/index.php/You_cannot_deny_the_emotional_impact_of_the_stutter-typing%21). Or the long version (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/970081.html).

I-I'm going to bed now. I'm so... tired *moans theatrically*
Good night, cruel internets. :)

Yup. Or as I like to say, "Go write your own recs, you lazy gits." But of course that would be actual work, while bitching about others is more fun and easy. (I have a bit of pent-up rage when it comes to this topic, as even the casual observer might notice *g*)
