Useful LJ archiving tool

I don't know if any of you are following the discussion in [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz about Six Apart's bright plans for LJ's future. There's quite a bit of paranoia on the users' side... on the other hand, is it paranoia if they're really after you? ;) I'm not too worried yet but I have become mistrustful, since it's become obvious that Six Apart doesn't give a flying monkey's ass about this site other than how to squeeze as many $$$$$ out of it as possible. If our interests happen to coincide with theirs, good - if not, we'll be screwed. *shrug*

Anyway, I'd wanted to make another backup of my journal anyway, and this reminded me to do so pronto. This journal started out just as a handy way to keep all my bookmarked journals on one friends page, but it has become a lot more - a mix of archive, chat, and personal journal. I would hate to lose any data. Normally I use ljbook for the backup, but the site seems to be overrun by millions of freaking lj users trying to all back up their journals at the same time... I think their server crashed.

But someone on lj_biz rec'd this little tool, ljArchive, which I like just as much. It's easy to download and install, the journal content downloads quickly and the downloaded content is very clearly arranged. (Windows only though, I think.) In order to run it on your computer, you need .NET Framework, which is also quickly installed.

Tomorrow I'll be off to the Book Fair in Frankfurt, where I'll meet up with [livejournal.com profile] jwaneeta for a spot of book-fairing and a little sightseeing tour of Germany. Well, a small part of Germany, anyway :o)

torrent is at 66%...as usual I'm staying clear of the friends list until I've watched it.

You're welcome. I had a feeling that tip might come handy for others, too.

I dunno what to make of these Six Apart fellows. They seem fair on the way to being all everybody feared back when the buyout first happened. The stupid, creepy, money grubbing changes will continue, and the outcry will just become numbing through repetition and finally fade away. And I can hardly see The Brad riding to the rescue indefinitely. Writing/Wall OTP, though I hate to say it.

I can't wait to take a pic of you with my new camera. It's rather better than the poor runt I brought to SD Con. :)

After reading a few theads, I got the distict impression that Brad is as unhappy with all the changes as we are. Plus, there's a lot more stuff behind the scenes that we never hear off, like messed-up coding. In that context I overheard... overread him say something like, 'I'm too tired to fight every battle.' Must suck to be the bad guy even though you're opposed to these decisions yourself. Though I'm sure the bag of cash he got in return for the site will somewhat ease his pain.

I'm bringing my camera, too. :)

Thank you so much! I've been hunting around for an LJ archiving tool for ages, but the ones I found either didn't work very well or were unwieldy to use. This one's terrific.

It's neat, isn't it. :)
