So, I'm collaborating with
yhlee on a new comic. Well, her work is done, mine's just started. I plan to post this one chronologically for a change ('cause it, ya know, makes more sense that way... even though I usually start with my favourite pages, or the ones that will go fastest). The next few days I probably won't have that much time to work on it so until I got some actual complete artwork to post, here's a sneak preview.

This is the inkwork for page 2, more or less finished. It still needs a few shades added but now the upstairs roommate demands an episode of Bones, and who am I to argue... [eta: Oh, The Woman at the Airport is so much better on second viewing. What a pleasant surprise. The out-of-sync sound in my first avi file was so irritating that I couldn't really appreciate the snappy dialogue.]

I couldn't appreciate it so clearly in the pencils, but I love the way the strong areas of black lead you through the action.

The art is just wonderful, Gunn's face at the top - so cool!
One constructive note: the body proportions in the upper panel is a bit off - Angel and the guy he's smacking look kinda too short, or the upper body is not in proportions with the lower body (i'm lacking the word in english). Hope it's ok, me mentioning this.

That is the part where I really love Photoshop (or Paint Shop Pro in my case)... it is so handy for changing these little details in no time.

And you're right - being able to easily fix or delete things is one of THE reasons to incorporate computer programs in your work.

Just the fact that I don't have to ride to the copyshop every time I need something enlarged or shrunk makes it priceless... and imagine my cry of glee when I discovered that my printer can handle light watercolour paper.

The downside (well, one of them, I guess, if you're used to working by hand) is to remember to save the work every few seconds, and I mean SECONDS. I got used to saving after every minor change (with photoshop's Snapshot option, it's really easy to go back to the way it's been before you saved. Though I don't know how that goes in PSP)

Oh no, I've been enlarging and shrinking happily for quite a while now. But that's it really... enlarging, shrinking, and printing. I'm not really using its full potential, you could say. ;o)

Well, it's only a matter of time.
God, I just had a frightening thought: when you get fluent in photoshop-based drawing... there's no telling how good you'll be, and how bad I'll envy your talent!!

But anyway, I'll never use photoshop for drawing. But I think it will be very useful for reworking artwork done in traditional media. And my roommate recently had a job where the publisher wanted the finished artwork sent to their server. And she knew even less about this stuff than me. Now she knows a lot more, but man, it cost her nervers.
I think there's a good chance that this will become more common - turning in the artwork digitally. After all, the client saves the money for the computer guy, so it's convenient for them. Just for that alone, I'd like to be prepared.
beta?
The whole thing will be about 8-10 pages long so it shouldn't be too time-consuming. I want to post the first two pages next week or the week after, then one page/month. Needless to say, no problem if you don't feel like doing it!
Re: beta?
You can send me the pages to my 'bluejway' mail.
