Gen; May, Ward, Coulson, Skye; warning: torture; spoilers 1x22; WIP; 10k words (3/?)
Summary: He wasn´t looking at her but rather through her, the faraway stare of somebody readying himself for pain and trying to gain some distance from the situation. He had been trained by SHIELD and Hydra both, and May already knew she would not get one word from him today. She was OK with that. One way or another, willingly or not, they would have their answers in the end.
"Was following Garrett worth the price, Agent Ward?"
Warning: this goes dark places. I made the mistake of reading it before bedtime and was so disturbed that I lay awake for hours afterwards, but I trust the author when she says that both May and Ward will ultimately get the chance to heal. Not an easy read but if done right, this has the potential to be an all the more cathartic story, so I'm sticking with it. I think the author understands the characters.
This fic has a lot of ugly and unsettling content and should be required reading for everyone who cheered on May and Coulson when they threatened torture.
