Bones wank on f_w. My little fandom has arrived. I feel strangely proud.
It's the bruhaha about the colour-blind tie-in writer. Okay, I was annoyed by Booth's steel-blue eyes myself *wanks unabashedly*. Why? C'mon... because it sends the signal that Tie-in Guy hasn't watched the show and thusly seems not that qualified to write a novel about it. Now, I didn't slam the book in a corner and it turns out he managed to do a decent job after all, but getting the appearances of the main characters wrong is really not the best way to inspire confidence and trust in your reader. :oP

eta: and now for some real wank, fresh from the presses: fanwriter offers her SW novel for sale on Amazon.
Q: Having set Another Hope in an already existing universe, I find myself wondering if there was any concern on your part regarding copyrights?
No, because I wrote this book for myself. This is a self-published story and is not a commercial book. Yes, it is for sale on Amazon, but only my family, friends and acquaintances know it’s there. ...*groan*
Damn you, Lori Jareo, for making me agree with Lee Goldberg on something fanfic-related. I'm glad we're finally getting spring-like temperatures, this isn't the time for hell to freeze over. Kindly get off my side, you make my sideget C&D'd look stupid.

Heh, someone just posted a five-star review to her amazon page:
Luke and Obi Wan die off-page! (p. 114) That makes this the best STAR WARS novel ever! I can only hope Han and Chewey get dusted in the sequel!
George Lucas should take a lesson from this woman!
YOUR CAST + SUPERLASERS = CRAZY DELICIOUS
rotfl
Weird that the book is still up there, though. I thought it would've been pulled by now.

I'm sure, if they were reading a book based upon a TV series/movie they were fond of, they'd want the writer of said book to be more cognizant of the details when describing major characters - say the protagonists and supporting characters.
On the flip side, think of the current "fan wank" over the new James Bond. Many fans were very upset to find a blond James instead of the dark-haired James they'd loved for the last 40 years.
I don't consider myself a fangirl or a rabid fan, but when I read a book, I expect certain details to be correct.
I found the physical descriptions of a character who, according to the publicity from the network and the producers, was cast very early in the process --- way before the novelization was written and the pilot shot- to be evidence of sloppy writing. I stopped reading the book.
I've also stopped reading books that describe parts of New York City or New Orleans or Southhampton or Philadelphia incorrect, as well. If the writers can't be bothered to do their research, I can't be bothered to finish reading.
As for Ms. Jareo? This is a great country.

I agree with you, I think it's not too much to expect the author to do their homework and to be honest, I don't really see the wank there... but maybe that happens when you're involved *g*. But it is kinda cool to see Bones show up there. It's like a rite of passage for every young fandom.

It annoyed me, but it happened just on three occasions (bespectacled 'Zach' appeared twice), and I could read past it. My pet peeves lie elsewhere. I have to stop reading, have to, if a writer constantly omits commas like in, "What do you mean Bones?" Argh. And so many writers do that. Also, uncontrolled POV switches. Those two things will ruin every fic for me, and a story has to hit my kinks pretty hard for me to even try to read past that.
The one thing I'd really criticize about Collin's book is his style. It is pretty uninspired in places, particularly when he introduces new characters. Every single time a new character appears, there's a description of what they wear. I mean, who cares if Detective Whatshisface wears blue pants, white shirt, and a black tie. Mention it when it matters. I read more elegant writing in many fanfics. But the forensic detail was well researched and the banter was decent, strangely enough, so I could appreciate the book on that level.
