While I was looking at some pics I found an old post in which I talk about watching Thor. Briefly, because the movie really didn't impress me. It's so funny how falling for a fandom sometimes works... back then I wouldn't have thought in a million years that a year later I'd be reading fic for that movie. So it goes.
(I also said, at one point in the past: "Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Teen show, and what a stupid name, I'm not watching that!")

I saw Thor after watching The Avengers so was mildly charmed, but I remember having the exact same reaction to Buffy when I first heard of it in college. :o)

Which ep was your first one? :-)

I liked Buffy quite a bit (more the early seasons than the later ones), but Angel will always be the show of my heart. ♥

Mmm, S1.

I can't get my husband to watch Angel with me because he can't stand Angel (which, to be fair, makes the show kind of hard to like!), but I'm waiting for my daughter to be old enough that I can start her on Buffy. =)

HA HA HA HA HA yeah.

My husband has some of the most sensitive embarrassment squick issues I've ever seen in a guy. You have to admit, especially for early Angel-the-character that...could be an issue. *G*

There was a time when I was really sure I'd never be into any superhero comics, despite loving comics in general. That was made moot by superhero movies, backed up by media fandom, seducing me eventually.

I think the first for me was that the first Spider-Man movie got me to read Spider-Man comics, which was around that time written by JMS for a while, whom I liked because of Babylon 5, and also I liked the Daredevil movie (I know I'm in the minority with that), and Bendis was writing that series around that time, plus it had some David Mack art whom I liked from his series Kabuki. But those two didn't spawn into any truly expensive habits or fanfic reading. That only happened later for me with Batman, when people I knew from The Sentinel had moved to LJ, and were into the DCU at that time, in particular Devin Grayson's writing for Gotham Knights and also the animated series. At least so far with the Avengers I've stuck with the movieverse as far as interest in the source material goes.

Backreading my journal is far more likely to reveal, "This show is GREAT, I will certainly be fannish about it!" about something that has me going, "Wait, WHAT was that show?"

There are things like Buffy and Angel that I waited a long time to dive into, but the only thing I remember being aggressively indifferent to was Downton Abbey, back when everybody liked it. Then I actually got into it when it turned into sort of a trainwreck.

I definitely get that too -- I've had some false positives that are kind of wishful thinking, but I really KNOW when I start writing fic in my head and I know it needs to get down.

FMA is one of my favorite examples, because I got halfway through volume 23 of the manga bopping along going, "Huh, this is pretty cool!" and then in the middle of that book, I had a, "Oh, damn, this is going to be a thing!" moment.

I tried watching Thor after I saw Captain America and couldn't get into it at all. I gave up before Thor even made it to Earth. Then right before Avengers came out, I sat myself down with some crochet and watched it. I didn't like it. Not until after watching the Avengers and totally getting sucked into fic.

I've rewatched Thor a couple times now, mostly to revisit Darcy after I got sucked into Darcy fic, and every time I skip the Asgard parts. Thor on Earth is fine. The rest of it bores me to tears and also, is bad. And I am not really a Loki fan either. I like him as a villain but not as a character for redemption.
