Friends list knows all...

Is there a word for "to thrive/flourish" in Japanese?

Yes, but I'd need context? If you're not talking about a garden, I think I'd go with 繁栄する, but there are many ways for things to be said.

flourish: http://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=flourish

増える kind of only implies the increase, not the flourishing, though.

I think using 栄える (sakaeru) or 繁栄(han'ei)する implies that it will do well: "化石燃料の少ない環境に栄えるようになるでしょう" "…発展していく" (発展 is what my kid recommends) etc. If you are talking about the future, you'll probably want ~ようになって行くでしょう。(my kids agree about this)

When I used to do professional translation, I always had ALC open. I love all the examples it gives. They get nuances across better than just definitions.
