yes, it is so frustrating. The last few days I could access LJ at most 25% of the times I tried, and a couple of times it was down for hours. I won't be paying them anymore for this. I already let my extra icons expire. As much as I like having my icons, why pay if I can't use them anyway, because the site is down all the time?

(eta: did you see LJ's weird New Year's greeting? It's not just that it looks machine translated, but that it is like some hilariously failed attempt at corporate speak. And why the started yet another comm for official messages, I have no idea.)

Hahaha, it loaded. They couldn't find one native speaker to proofread a few sentences for them? And yeah, you sure can tell about their changed, special attitude toward blogging.

I can get to lj on my comp, but if I try to do so on my smartphone, I can't seem to get through. *grumble*

They're having another DDOS attack. I can get in, they put this up on a status banner:

While LiveJournal has experienced some issues with our servers which we have posted about earlier, these issues have been resolved. The current problems are being caused by a sharp increase in malicious traffic which began on December 31. The first wave of that traffic was targeted at profile pages. As a temporary response to this, we disabled profile pages to maintain availability of the rest of the service.

We have already un-blocked profile pages but at this time, but some people using ISPs which have contributed to the malicious traffic are still being blocked by our mitigation system. We understand that there are legitimate users affected by this; in order to allow these people to access the site, we are taking steps to make the list of blocked addresses more precise so no legitimate users are affected.

In case your ISP is being blocked, there are several ways you can try to access the site:

The Opera browser has a Turbo mode which works like a proxy server; LiveJournal may be available through this feature in Opera;
If have access to an alternate ISP, try connecting through that ISP;
You can try using any proxy servers available to you so your request is routed through networks that are not being blocked.

If you do this, we strongly suggest you only use the servers you trust; passing your username and password through an untrusted network (e.g. in order to log in) can result in your account being compromised.

We apologize for the inconvenience these problems have caused.

Probably the reason for all the spam I'd been getting the past week. Nothing as annoying as getting five comments that turn out to be the same bit of spam in less than two days.

Maybe the spammers were their advance strike team. Though, I'm not even sure if it's all DOS attacks like LJ claim. It's suspicious that this is happening around the time they're launching their latest "improvements". I'm suspecting they broke the damn site themselves.

astridv and I have had our ISP(s?) blocked because like her I haven't been able to access the site at all.

I'm with Versatel? But it seems to affect a lot of users, so I'm wondering if they didn't block everything globally and are now slowly unblocking some of them manually, or something like that.

Anyway, annoying as hell. And it's not just today, access has been spotty for days for me.

Just FYI, I had no trouble at all with reaching the site over NYs. It was slow alright (DDoS-like), but I could get everywhere. Not that I tried very often or very long, because it was so slow. I went to DW instead.

Hm, maybe I should try installing Opera. If only I knew how much longer this is gonna take.

I'm with Fairpoint, which serves a handful of mostly-rural states in the US (hardly what you'd expect to be the source for a DDOS attack on a Russian site) and I haven't been able to get onto LJ yet today either.

Looks like I'm going to be shifting my reading list to DW, except for a few communities I follow.
