The Hurt Locker rec:

Summary: Out of the sandbox and into the fire.

This fic really captures the feel of the movie. (I find the title somewhat misleading.) It's set a number of years in the future, the political situation is even more screwed up. But then, William James never cared that much about politics. Or anything else that isn't about disarming bombs.

The characterizations are spot on, even the OCs feel real, and the story is so tense, I held my breath during parts of it.

Happy solstice indeed! I'm so ready for the days to become longer again rather than shorter. If one at least could see the sun for the less than seven and a half hours between its rise and set here, but with the overcast skies not even the short daylight hours have enough light.

Yeah, this morning I thought, why even bother getting up and stayed in bed until eleven. There was no daylight to miss. At least we're on the upswing again now.
