Though to be fair, no problems arise from speech not having this distinction, because normally sentences have context. I still find it makes reading faster to have properly capitalized text. (I've had the unfortunate pleasure to untangle political manifestos from groups who for some reason felt the need to do away with capitalization.) I guess it's either habit or it really helps untangle the flexible sentence structure of German at a glance if you know what the nouns are.
