fandom meme

This looks fun. Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] lar_laughs:
The current fandom wot owns my souls is (hard to miss...) The Avengers. (I've also hung out in X-Files, DS9, Voyager, Buffy, Angel, Bones, SGA, Fullmetal Alchemist, Chuck and Leverage, so any of those goes.)

Pick a number from the list and I'll answer it in the comments.

1 - Your current OTP.
2 - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind.
3 - A pairing you have never liked and probably never will.
4 - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.
5 - Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?
6 - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
7 - Do you remember your first OTP? If so who was in it?
8 - Do you prefer characters from real action series or anime series?
9 - Has the internet caused you to stop liking any fandoms? If so, which and why?
10 - Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr your social network sites.
11 - How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom?
12 - Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request. What do you ask for?
13 - Your favorite fanart or fanartist.
14 - Your favorite fanfiction or fanauthor.
15 - Choose a song at random. Which OTP does it remind you of?
16 - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
17 - A ship you’ve abandoned and why.
18 - A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships.
19 - Show us an example of your personal headcanon.
20 - Do you remember what your first fanwork was?
21 - Self-rec: What's your favorite fanwork you've created?
22 - Are you one of those fans who can’t watch anything without shipping?
23 - 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms.
24 - 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms.
25 - A fandom you’re in but have no ships from.
26 - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go.

Yeah, I don't tend towards elaborate headcanon either. I mean, over time I absorb fanon, the hazard (and perk) of fandom, especially if it makes sense of things, but in isolation I don't come up with these things much.

And wow, that was your first fanwork? Mine are embarrassing, and I can't even properly pinpoint the first.

Yeah, comics are hard. And they take a lot of time. I've been drawing comics a lot as a kid and teenager. I published them in the school paper, and one got published in a fanzine, but only because it was part of a youth project. It was a comic workshop my city offered for teenagers and I was in that comic group for two or three years, and the teachers were an artist together with I think it was some sort of social worker.

Looking back I think it was some sort of thinly disguised city social work for drug and gang prevention, at least we always met in these youth centers in "sozialen Brennpunkten", first some then quite dilapidated building near the central station, then in some sort of anti-drug project thing, where I (as sheltered comfortably middle class girl) would have never ventured, had I not seen the flyer in the library advertising this. I was somewhat out of place, one of the few girls and among the youngest too, but it was quite fun, and at the time I didn't really realize that I was not actually the target audience. Anyway, one year we did a fanzine together, and had an exhibition at the local comic con. On the downside they never gave back the original artwork to us.

It was really cool, and I learned a lot. I actually still have the photo copies they gave us about visual story telling and such. They later published these materials as a book together. I have the second comic, the one that was also in the zine online in English translation. I'm still quite fond of it, considering that I made it when I was 16.

16! For Avengers, SGA and Leverage, please?

Interesting! Yes, it's difficult for SGA, but there can always be more fantasy AUs. Like the one where Pegasus natives can use magic but the Earthers not so they're helpless in comparison and have to rely on the Athosians and random artifacts of the Ancients (who also didn't use magic) for protection, which results in a completely different power balance. (Elizabeth would love to learn magic and takes many "lessons" from Teyla, but it never works. Only one or two Earthers learn how to do small things, like lighting candles. And then suddenly Jennifer Keller finds out that she's good at it and becomes Atlantis's "resident Earth magician", working together with Rodney and Radek and Teyla and Elizabeth to try and combine Ancient technology with magic (Elizabeth survived because events went differently, somehow, but that means no Sam or Woolsey... maybe she goes elsewhere?) No idea what the plot of the actual story would be, though. Maybe a mission fic? Or just various snippets centered around Jennifer and Teyla and culture clashes? Damn it, now I want to write this. Uh, sorry for rambling.

Thanks. I don't have a lot of fixed headcanon because I like having different interpretations to play around with, except that everyone is much more competent than on the show. But I never had a problem coming up with AUs (at least not for SGA, so many possibilities!), and I love worldbuilding. Plot and character voices and sitting down to actually write it are much more difficult! I like the image of Teyla teaching Jennifer magic, so maybe I can write a bit about that.

Re: #17 - yup, I know the feeling! That was the first pairing I thought of för that question too.

And I was sold on Spock/Uhura after the reboot too, although I can see a little of it kind of retroactively in some TOS eps.
