Immortal Engines by [archiveofourown.org profile] rhymer23
Gen with a healthy dose of Natasha/Clint UST; PG-13; genre: teamfic/action-adventure/AU; 68,915 words
Summary: The year is 1878 in a world that never was. Dirigibles ply the airways. Tony Stark is failing to invent artificial intelligence, Thor is attempting to be inconspicuous in a frontier saloon, Bruce is running away, Natasha and Clint are engaged in their own separate missions, and Steve Rogers has awoken to find himself a man out of time. When an enemy raises an army of deadly metal constructs, these six people must come together to save the world, and maybe just find themselves along the way.

Rhymer was one of my favorite gen writers in SGA fandom so I was thrilled when I saw she's writing Avengers. This story is a long, plotty steampunk AU, rich in characterization and teaminess. The plot draws parallels to the movie while it's still its own unique story. I love what she does with the characters, how she explores their relationships and shows them come together as a team. The voices are spot-on! I can't even quote my favorite lines, there are so many of them.
