Oh god the weather sucks the weather sucks it sucks. I don't know yet if this is the worst summer I remember, but it's already top four. Depending on how August turns out it has a chance to make #1. Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. If we get one more day of near non-stop rain I got a feeling I'll lose it.

And of course the first articles pop up waxing about how this is totally within normal range. Do these people ever leave their labs and take a look outside? Or do they use data back to the ice age to get their medians?

Maybe the Little Ice Age after the Medieval Warm Period? But it could be worse, there could have been a giant volcano eruption and a Year Without Summer with nuclear winter like conditions.

But yeah, right now I'm huddling under a blanket, and my rats are sleeping in the typical winter pile, so while I still like it better than *heat* it could be some degrees warmer. Also less overcast. On several days this summer I had to turn on the light in the afternoon, which is a really depressing thing to have to do in the months where you are supposed to have the light to fortify you against the winter sunlight deficit. :/

Today I had the heater on, yesterday too, and I don't even feel bad about it. And yeah, most days I have to turn on the light in the afternoon because I need proper light to work. Fortunately I have two daylight spectrum lamps, that helps. Though I think they're not the same as the medical kind so I don't know if they help to stave off the winter blues.

I think the medical ones are more powerful to have an impact. I mean, lamp light, even bright office light, is always much dimmer than sunlight, it just can't compete on lux.

The near term forecast looks truly depressing for sure. Next weekend the low is supposed to be 11°C.

I feel your pain; the weather in the UK has been uniformly wet and cooler than normal for weeks now. It's pretty miserable.

Yeah, looks like most of Northern Europe is in this together. There's this §$%"%$§# persistent low pressure band or something that's blocking all the warm air from the South.

Been going on since the beginning of June; it's just ridiculous.

It seems to be going around. Auckland had a dismal summer - not that much rain but just day after day of flat, grey, sunless skies, cool temps and wind. I started to feel really down and then discovered we'd only had something like 50% of our normal sunshine hours, which explained a lot. It did redeem itself with a couple of nice weeks in April... I think that's all that stopped a lot of us from going completely bonkers.

Oh, didn't know that. I did read that Japan got some serious flooding this summer.

We had three or four nice weeks in May, and that was it, for the entire year so far. No one be sustained by three measly weeks of sunshine for months on end. /o\

It's not so bad around these parts, more like one week summer followed by one week rainy autumn followed by a week of summer. Currently it sucks, though.
