Thought about getting a tumblr account in spite of my dislike of that site, cause that way I'm retaining a smidgeon more control over my fanart; if I post the stuff there myself, at least I'm listed as the source. But then I check and see that both astridv and astrid-v are already taken so there goes what little impetus I had. Meh.

The non-sourcing habit is really annoying. Especially since there is a source field, so that they could post the picture in a way that clicking would lead to the source. I now try to remember to watermark all my pictures with my URL, not in a disfiguring way (I dislike that kind of watermark) but just in a bottom corner or the like, along with my normal signature so people seeing my art somewhere can find the source. And of course I now have a Tumblr, but that doesn't always help, if you also post elsewhere and people may "find" your picture somewhere, but not your Tumblr.

What also sucks is that actually even if you upload something yourself, you can't delete it afterwards. I mean, you can delete the post, but any reblog will remain and with the picture as it was then at the time of the reblog, so if you want to correct an error for example that you noticed later on, you can't fix it. Of course that also prevents bait and switch spam and broken posts, but still.

Yes, the double standard really bugs me too.

And I'm telling ya, when newbies who grew up on tumblr come to LJ and start to mindlessly reblog fic (which has already started happening here and there) I'm not gonna move a finger, I'm just gonna lean back and see what the fic writers say now that it's their work that gets reposted.

Word.
