this and that

Over on [livejournal.com profile] bones_theseries, damnskippytoo has a link to the Bones segment on court tv, with clips from the show as well as short interviews with all the main actors.

Story count at the new BBF archive: 176. Yesterday I put up a counter and saw that the archive is already being visited, even though it's not announced or linked anywhere yet. This pleases me muchly. I'm properly motivated to add the remaining... ugh, 232 stories.

As for the other Project From Hell That's Eating My Time And Brain: what possessed me to pick, for my first Japanese novel, a book that has 550 pages?? At least I'm almost halfway through, Harry just got hold of the Marauder's Map. Things I learned so far:
Quidditch matches in Japanese? Much less gripping to read than in English.
That goes twice for Potions lessons. The stuff they put in their cauldrons, not exactly on the list of required vocabulary.

Still, all bitching aside this method of learning actually works, even better than I'd hoped. Time-consuming it is, but still a shortcut. I find that I'm picking up kanji along the way and am starting to recognize them even if I can't write or pronounce them. The kanji I recognize from the book are definitely much easier to memorize later.

It's just that, in the time it takes me to read half a dozen pages of the Prisoner of Azkaban, I could track down, print, and read a novel-length Buffy fanfic.

Speaking of: First sightings of Bones fanfic :o). Hopefully more to come.

beaucoup de thanks for the Bones link!

And about the BBF archive? It's outstanding! but, but....232 more stories to be added? Dude: that's a major project.

As for the Japanese? You are a better linguist than I. [salutes Astrid in Mike Meyer style, salaaming all the while chanting, "I am not worthy."]

I studied Japanese for a year and a half and learned....nothing. My sensei told me I have "great enthusiasm, small talent". She was very tactful and sweet and I saved my $$ and went home. Happily. Very complicated for me.

Also - thank for the Bones fanfic link. I just received a note from a friend with an AtS/Bones cross-over. It's Spangel and quite interesting. God, but I love this fandom! It. never. gives. up. on. a 'ship.

Ah, that was just supposed to be underlined, but it really looks like a link. Gonna change that.

Hee! True. We Angel fans are a feisty bunch.

Show me yours and I show you mine? ::grin::

Hm, chances are we're talking about the same fic. Okay, I've found two quite interesting WIPs, actually. Both post Shanshu crossovers (that particular plotbunny is really hard not to get bitten by...). One is by [livejournal.com profile] stolen_childe; so far two parts are up.

The other one is a xover series by [livejournal.com profile] angelstart. Four parts up so far. Still very rough around the edges, some issues with POV and punctuation (my two pet peeves *sigh* my inner editor goes into overdrive while reading). But, it's got plot and promise. And it's been updated fairly regularly so far.

There are a few more dialogue pieces in one of the communities, but I can't remember where exactly.

Um, wow? She actually said that? That's... direct. Was she Japanese?

I love the language, but yeah, it can be frustrating. And my spoken Japanese / listening comprehension still suck.

Yup. It took me one whole month just to get the archive software running. Though I didn't mind, because I learned something new every time I ran into a problem. But this, the moving of the stories... that's just drudge work. I'll be glad when that's done. Of course then there're the 110 _new_ stories we haven't even started to archive yet.

But hey, I wanted an auto-archive. :p And it'll be really cool when it's done.

Woof. The things we do for love.

And again, the Prizoner of Azkaban thing just impresses the pookey out of me.

Yup Hai!

Well, it's Harry Potter, not great literature. It's easy to read by comparison, plus I keep the English version close by to look up stuff. It's just so very very long.

*pounces* Seriously? Because... I'll probably get back to you on that offer. I'm pretty sure there'll be something left to do in four weeks. You know some html, right? I vaguely recall you're computer-savvy. (It's not necessary, but makes things much easier).

*cough* ahem

... are you back online? If so, are you still up for a bit of archiving? (No worries if not, but I can always use a hand)
