Rec of the day

Just found via [livejournal.com profile] kidpix: Illustrations of Ivan Bilibin, a Russian illustrator from the early 20th century whose art was heavily influenced by art noveau. Very ornamental, which I love. Some of them have a certain classic graphic novel feel, too.

The scans in the post are pretty enough but when you google him there are countless more, and in much better picture quality.

I have to try and get my hands on a few of his books.

I love Ivan Bilibin! My mum owned a bunch of translated versions of the fairytales he illustrated, they were hugely influential on my art style growing up.
