Just found via kidpix: Illustrations of Ivan Bilibin, a Russian illustrator from the early 20th century whose art was heavily influenced by art noveau. Very ornamental, which I love. Some of them have a certain classic graphic novel feel, too.

The scans in the post are pretty enough but when you google him there are countless more, and in much better picture quality.

I have to try and get my hands on a few of his books.

I love Ivan Bilibin! My mum owned a bunch of translated versions of the fairytales he illustrated, they were hugely influential on my art style growing up.

I sort of regret I only discover him now! I feel really inspired, just looking at his art, to go back to the more decorative illustrative style I tried for a while when I was in art school. I always wanted to do more in that direction. It doesn't fit for any of the projects I'm working on right now, but I want to see if I can work it into a fanart.
