/!\ Opinion Ahead /!\

These past days I've tried to get down with the RP RPG and keep my yap shut, but I just can't. I'm too opinionated for that, okay. I think Real People Fic, when written without explicit permission, is disrespectful and a violation of other people's privacy.

Legal issues and squick factor aside, this is what it boils down to for me: I know I would be utterly mortified and feel violated if I ever found out that someone wrote a fic like that about me. I would feel a great deal of resentment towards that writer. If I don't want something done to me, I can't be okay with it being done to others. Simple as that.

I’m not trying to tell anyone what to do (pfft! As if!), I’m expressing my opinion. People say they have the right to write RPF; I have the right to not read it. And to hate it. And to post about how much it bothers me. Just as much as you have the right to defend it and post about how much fun it is.

...she said and alienated half the people on her friends list.
Ah well, at least I’ve waited until after no-kerfuffle day.

Alienated for having an opinion that's different than mine?

Hi. Have you met me? I'm Kita and I love a debate. Or you know, just hanging out with people who have different ideas than mine. Cause- uhm, it's more interesting.

So. Rock on. I'll RPG and you don't have to read it and we'll find something else to chat about our mutual enjoyment of, I'm sure.

I'm glad you see it that way. :)

Hey, live and let live I say. Diversity makes LJ and life in general much more interesting.

Well, your opinion of RPF is quite similar to mine - so obviously I don't hate you :-)

But I also think you nailed the problem of some of the recent kerfuffles.

When you or I or many other people say "I don't like RPF or slash or man/boy love or fics containing jelly beans" or "It bothers/squicks me" or even (God forbid) "I think it's wrong" - well, we're not telling people "Stop it or you'll go blind!" or "The Wrath of God will smite you!" or anything like that.

We're just expressing an opinion and/or making a statement about where our own moral boundaries lie. And of course others are entitled to disagree.

I tend to miss most of the kerfuffles. They just seem to happen when I'm looking the other way. But going back and following the threads in retropsect (as it were), I think the main problem usually lies with people latching on to one part of someone's statement and extrapolating it beyond what they were actually saying.

Then someone gets frustrated and launches into a heated tirade about their own point of view - with accompanying personal insults to their opposition.

Then each side gets their "You Go Girl!" team going (usually in their own private journal)

And voila! Major kerfuffle!

Gotta admit, I find the phenomenon rather interesting when looked at in that abstract kind of way.

So Happy The-Day-After-No-Kerfuffle-Day Day!

:-)

Hey to each his/her own, thats what makes us interesting no?

Eh, I tried, but couldn't get into it. I got about one paragraph of a Alexis/David story idea I had written, then shuddered and said, "I can't do this."

Would I defriend and RPF'r, no way in hell. I like seeing what other people are doing out there, and though I can't read Vinnie/James, some of the sock puppets like Jenny-no and Antikita are hilarious. I found my balance on the rpg issue, and you found yours and the hardcore rpg'rs have theirs. It's all good.

Which is all for the better, 'cause it frees you up for more C/A. ;o)
BTW, do you still want feedback for the Spike ghost story snippet you'd posted the other day? I had a thought or two (and caught a typo or two,) but no time to reply.

Oh, I'd love some feedback!
I noticed a few things last night that I tweaked, and I'm not sure which snippet you read, because there is now a longer snippet, but any comments would be greatly appreciated. I want to finish all the Collin-Lindsey-Ghost-Spike/Cordy smut so I can get back to my loverly OTP C/A.

Hey, psychofillllly

Just curious - is the squick factor tied to the sex? If Vinnie/James threads didn't have the sex, if they were just having a conversation, or if they were going to the amusement park or if it was a thread about a day on set or something, would you be able/want to read it?

Or is it the writing? Or something else all together?
