Rec of the day... and some ramblings
My roomie made Reibekuchen today, also known as Kartoffelpuffer (hey, wouldn't that make a cool name for the next monster on Grimm - the Kartoffelpuffling?)... anyway, those are pankake-like things that consist of grated potatoes, onions, a bit of flour and a dash of salt. So we have no idea why the kitchen smells like baked goose now. Not just that, the cakes taste like goose. Boggling.
I'm falling behind on my fic reading and reccing because I've been following the OTW debate for the last few days. Like someone said, it's like watching your parents fight. :( I thought about linking to the relevant threads but there are so many of them, I just didn't know where to start. I haven't found a succinct summary with links yet.
rec, rec... oh yeah. Lovely kids' book art: Legends from Kasachstan. I like the tasteful coloring and the style which looks like an interesting blend of Western and Eastern styles.
(the comm is in Russian but the post is all pics.)

*snorts* Don't give them ideas.
The art is gorgeous. Reminds me of my childhood. I had tons of fairy/folk tale books from all over the world.

Though if you discover how to reproducibly capture goose taste without any goose in it, do tell me.
Actually, do you know those crispy, salted sheets of seaweed you can get in some Asian stores? I find they taste a lot like delicious, crispy fried chicken's skin.

I love it but then I'm a sushi fan. I tried a few times to make sushi at home (with so-so results) and I discovered that I like to nibble on the roasted seaweed as a snack. There are various kinds, the one that tastes like chicken skin has a bit of oil on it, and salt and maybe other spices. Tastes great with rice, too.
